Greetings!

Went from metal slug chips, to Tikis to a nice Paulson set in a couple of months. Fully hooked at the moment and have been enjoying the journey.

I got an AS tourney set this past week, and I’m really excited about it. However now that it’s actually at my house I feel a little different. I got the set to use for a monthly home game. However I feel like the set is so nice I’m not sure I want to use it!

What does it generally take for chips to lose their mint condition?

Taken out of the box.

I'm a big believer that chips are to be utilized for their purpose. Not just to look at. Put those bitches into play and post a ton of action shots!!!

BTW, I have family in Jasper, AL :) I think thats a few hours from you.

Bad news. As soon as they hit a game, they are used. Good news is.... They get better with age. Let dem chips out, let them bounce on the felt, and you'll fall more in love with them.

If you are not going to use a set you might as well start collecting singles! All kidding aside, as a collector of sets you need to realize that these chis are living and breathing things. They need to be taken out and used or they just sit there and collect dust. Let them breathe and feel the love!

It's going to take years of weekly home game use before any chips that are mint will show any kind of wear. The edges still remain square on most Paulsons and CPC chips for years even with somewhat regular use, as opposed to almost constant 24/7 use in the casinos when the chips show wear after just a few weeks.

Here are some ASMs that have about 600 games on them... Most people will never get close to that

Sounds like I need to buy multiple Paulson sets to spread out the wear - just in case. ;)

I've always been a "put them in play" person, but now I picked up a set of the Lady Luck tournament chips I'm a little hesitant to put them into play at my regular game. I may start with @Jeevansluck's game as he has a sweet table setup and it's a far cleaner environment (no ash, no split beers, etc).

How durable are hot stamps? It seems like the exposed clay surface would be more susceptible to scratching/marks.

I felt exactly the same way man. I know how you feel. I've got a few Paulsons collecting "dust". In the end, you must do what you feel is best. Don't let anyone tell you what you can and can't do. What you should and shouldn't do. They are your chips and whatever you do, as long as you are happy, is right by the chips. I couldn't care less what others think about collecting sets or how I use or NOT use my sets...

That said, with respect to the AS HS set, they are amazing. You should use them. I ultimately did. You won't be able to resist the temptation probably. Despite my best efforts, I wasn't able to.

I had humble beginnings..

Then I would line them up and stare at them..

Then I just had to play them..

They do just beg ya quietly, to be used. That's for sure!

Have fun man! Above all! A hobby needs to be fun, but there ain't NO RULES!

Money comes and goes. Do not sweat losing a little value by keeping them safe. The better the chips, the more you should want to get them in play. Seriously.

Those AS chips are some of the best out there, I just wish I had a game that ran often enough to own a set. If they were mine they would get played without a doubt. As they are yours, you get to do whatever you want with them, but my advice would be to get them on the felt.

I have a stack of ESST chips (same type of chip, inlaid rather than hotstamped) that have many hours of shuffling on them. Honestly, they feel way better now that they are broken in. THC chips wear in very well so even though there is wear, they don’t look beaten up at all. Just a nicely broken in look.

Get them in play and post pics!
