@Player0ne, I was once you. I actually upgraded to 500 dice chips from 300 plasticky Dragon chips. (I still have both sets, btw). Then in 2006 got 1,000 Nexgen River Poker Tours.
Found this site last year. Got a perfectly fine 950-chip Tina tournament set this year, then sold the RPTs to help fund a clay cash game set.
Moral: You will learn. You will spend. You will acquire. Then, hopefully, you will host.

You want nice looking chips with numbers on them. You NEED chips that you can stack 20 high and won’t topple if somebody bumps the table.

Welcome to PCF! I still play with dice chips every Tuesday and Thursday at the American Legion with the old timers. At my home games, I went from Eclipse to Apache’s Bank to Paulson THC Solid poker chips.

FYI, I joined this forum 8 years ago to see if dice chips could be customised
However, I never threw away my then existing dice chip set. Instead, I custom-labelled it (with denominations too) and have kept it as rural travel set.

This is what I’ve been thinking about doing. I have some buddies I want to host for some home games and I don’t want to deal with them asking over and over gain what the demons are lol

The best is when you break out chips with denominations and players used to non-denominational chips ask how much each chip is worth. They're so accustomed to asking they don't even look.

When I'm losing multiple buy-ins, nothing beats the feeling of doing it with a $5000 set.

I started with dice chips, then a nicer set of denom slug 14.5 g chips, then another set of denom slugs...then I stumbled upon this site. I just could not justify paying 3-$5 a chip, so I opted for a custom Tina that matched my poker table and room theme. They are still in play going on 5 years and are still like in new condition.
I play at a friends that still uses non denom dice chips.
Most players could care less about the chips they play poker with.
I'm positive I could bring out different colored buttons to use as chips, and no one would blink...tough to shuffle buttons however lol.
You have control of the chips you want to play with...regardless of what the forum members say or think of your choices.

Welcome! I agree, dice chips, yin yangs, or heck, even rocks on the side of the road could work for poker. But the vibes are so cool once you get into these custom/semi-custom chips!
