First, a little background on my game.
I run a monthly tournament (it's a hybrid league) in which I use a formula to calculate points based on your exit position. Those points accumulate over the course of 11 games, and will become your starting stack for the final free-roll game. I average 32-36 players per month. The top 36 players with points and at least 2 games attended are invited to the final game. Starting stacks range from 26k to 8k for that event.
(if you want to know, the formula is [ (ROUND(LOG(($F$3+5)/A8,10)*100,0)*15)*2 ] where F3 is total number of entries and rebuys and A8 is player rank. 100 points for each knockout is added to your score as well.
Per the title, I'd like to do a test run of a different structure and see if it plays better over the course of the evening. I would only do 1 game this season with this modified structure, and if it achieves the goal I'm looking for (shorter game while bringing a bit more play), I'd use this structure full time for the following season.
My current structure is a T10K stack plus bounty (plus 1k for early arrivals); 12x25, 12x100, 5x500, 6x1000. 1 rebuy per person for the 1st 5 levels for the same price as a starting stack.
I'd like to include the BB ante into the event, and start at the 100/100/100 level while upping the starting stack to 20k. This allows for generally the same depth and playability but with the ante. I'd use the WSOP (or similar) structure that I've used for the satellite events I've hosted in the past.
Sure, I know it's my game and I can do what I want, but I don't want to mess things up too. Do you think changing the structure for 1 event could provide for uneven results and such? I'd calculate the points the same for for now, but if it works and I change to this structure next season, I'll update my scoring formula to account for the change is starting stack size.
Thanks
