I couldn’t find if this has been covered before, but it’s something I struggle with, at least in my head,

Cash Game
Max 10 Players

$50 Max buy in

$100 max rebuy
0.25/0.50

I know I’m going to need change to get the players paid out.

I also know with a $50 buy in I’m going to need 10s because they will most often bring me 3 20s

How much change would you suggest and how would you break that down?

Do not use $10 denoms

Read the post in my thread that explicitly explains cash game breakdowns. Landscape on mobile

Oh and welcome

Most hosts keep 100 bucks in change, 1s 5s 10s. Don't cash out anything less than $1

I don't give out quarters if you mean literal change, I round down even in my 5c/10cent game.

For cash yup, I have a couple hundred in $5s and $1s for change purposes. Bank looks at you weird but you don't have to worry about it often if you cash people out with the big bucks first.

What, 8 people, buyins plus 4 rebuys is $800. Most of that can be handed out in the $50s/$20s from their buy-ins, but make sure to have 20 $5s and 50 $1s just in case. That's probably overkill on $1s but they're the workhorse at our game so I have more. I end up having more than that in a cash box over time.

I think they meant actual cash for cashing in and out with, not chip denoms.

I also struggle with this, honestly. OP, have you considered upping the buy in to $60 so you're not having to make change at the front end?

I seeded my bank with 100 $1s, 20 $5s, and 10 $10s and haven't had to get more change yet. Should probably go see how much is in there now.

I think he is talking about cash for playing buying in and cashing out not chips. I usually keep $100 in 10s $50 in 5s $30 in ones and a couple 20s. I do keep quarters but most players say no thank you so you don’t need many

We usually round everything down and then have a double-board holdem showdown at the end for the loose change left over.

Or we tell the host to keep it. Which seems to be the latest trend.

Depends too if everyone stays to the end. I often have a few guys who cash out early

1. Change the buy in to $60. Then you don't need a bunch of $10's for change.

2. 20 x $1 $80 x $5. You'll probably be set for a few games.

No metal change. This was a mistake I made when I first started playing, but honestly, nobody cares - but it is best to let players know that there wont be any coin change given so there won't be any expectations.

Like others have posted, I keep a envelope of change. Mine is $200 in 20s, $10s $5s and $1s. This also helps because I have a couple players that buy-in with Venmo. I may need to make my first trip to the bank since 2009, because the Venmo players never finish up.

I am fortunate because I have players that have hosted. They know the benefit to buying in with exact cash and occasionally smaller bills.

Second what Detroit dad said.. I only take in Venmo what I have in cash on me that I'm not playing with myself so I can always pay everyone out in cash at the end of his night.

I keep a small stack of $5s just in case and don’t find it’s much of a problem. Some folks will deliberately make a buy in with smaller bills to make it easier at the end. Others will make change at the end.

Don’t give out change at the beginning. Make people buy in for what they brought up to the max. That way you can encourage them to better behaviors :)

I usually just go to the bank and pick up bills for making cashout change before poker night. Maybe withdraw like 20x$1, 16x$5, 10x$10? Added benefit is if someone Venmos you, you can just throw cash in for their buy-in.
