This will be my third year dealing the wsop. I will post here about highlights of the shifts and anything interesting about working and harvesting on the strip in the next few months.

Last year during the "closer" (last shift of the year) I got to deal to DNegs, Chance Kornuth and Jared Bleznick. Jared was pretty funny. He was just moved to my table. And immediately started to ask everyone at the table, if you show your cards, I'll show mine. Very respectfully. One guy showed his hand. Then like a minute later, he said, wait... The information you get from seeing my cards is like a hundred times more valuable than the info I can get from seeing your cards. Everyone at the table started laughing. No one showed their cards after that.

schedule was finally released. I'm on the 4pm shift which is the nuts imo. I was on day shift first year. 9am shift starts with roll call of about 150+ dealers. DC (dealer coordinator) calls out names in order and assigns tables. takes about 20+ minutes to get through the whole list. then tournies start at 10am, with no set up down. So everyday your first hour is basically a break and half of that involves setting up a table and having to check in players which is pretty much like work but without the pay. then you deal the first seven hours of a wsop structure tourny which is boring AF.

swing on the other hand is much more entertaining. much later in the day. Stacks are bigger, but less BB's. more chips. more fun. more action. 4pm start, and your first assigned table is usually 430. then the best part is after a few hours the sixty minute dinner break arrives, so dealers get paid "dead spread" which is like time out. sit by yourself at your table and meditate or watch TV. After that, play is agro. counting all in's until midnight or so, and then bag em up to end the shift.

My idea for this thread was a little inside info for the life of a dealer. nothing really personal, more informative. but as with everything I do in life, this seems dumb. so if I'm just wasting my breathe (keystrokes) feel free to lmk. I'm just pretty pumped up to deal. I try to explain this stuff to my wife/family/noob friends they are nice about it, but they can give two shits about dealing.

This sounds interesting and am looking forward to hearing your tales! There are plenty here who will enjoy this thread!!!

Common question I get is how much dealers make. At the wsop hourly pay is $12.50 which is really good for a tipped position. Pretty rare to make over minimum wage. There are two rates for downs. Holdem pays $15/down. And any mix game is worth $20/down. A down is thirty minutes. So daily pay Dependson how busy it is vs the amount of dealers. On a slow day with a lot of dealers you could end up with a ton of breaks and get forced out early. Or busy days you might get a couple breaks in a ten+ hour shift. Ideally, I think most rooms shoot for 4 to 5 table pushes. So deal for a couple hours and break for 30.

Not dumb in the least! It is very cool to hear some behind the scenes action from a dealers perspective. Good luck and keep the stories coming!

So do you get hourly plus down pay? Or is it an either/or kinda thing?

Disagree.

I'm interested in reading your recaps.

I had the same question.

Hourly plus the downs. So it can add up. Especially on OT.

Curious as to how dealers chosen for the final table at the main event? Random, seniority is there a grading system?
There are basically two pools of dealers. The one big pool (95%) is regular squad. Of that, there is a vague line that separates "holdem only" and mix. Which doesn't come into play too often. And most dealers will say they can deal mix, just to make extra money, but have no business dealing those games.

You can sign up as a mix dealer and might be put on a different shift, so that might be a for in the door to the second group.

the restart team. Hand selected, I'm guessing about 60x of the qualified/ most senior dealers. They handle the restarts and high rollers and FT's these guys wear a yellow lanyard, so keep an eye out for the chosen ones. Haha

Not sure how they are picked. I should probably try and figure that out, but I usually just keep my head down and deal.

I loved reading your past experiences on your vendor page and missed seeing these reports last year--looking forward to your chipping and WSOP thoughts

HALF A BILLION DOLLARS. just in case you were wondering how much the wsop handles in seven weeks... It is A HALF A BILLION DOLLARS.

the was a fun fact from the otherwise tooth pulling 5 hour orientation I learned today.

Also, they are using an app, wsop+ for all tournament entries and seat assignments there will be an iPad at every table.

All I can say is good luck with that. It will probably be a shit show the first week.

Empty ballroom pics...

Oh, bring a sweater and a hat. Last two years the Provence and that other ballroom above the horseshoe poker room were like an ice box.

Keep in mind everyone, That’s where they play the deep stacks and satellites. Hopefully it won’t be as bad this year. But come prepared for cold.
