I have a charity casino night tonight for the hockey club that my sons play and I coach for. I have never been to a casino night before. I know we all get a certain amount of chips walking in and then the biggest stacks at the end of the night win prizes. Of course my competitiveness is kicking in, so I want to figure out how to put myself in the best position to win this thing.

I know they will have poker, roulette and blackjack. I would probably have an edge with poker, but I feel that will be moving pretty slowly. Roulette and blackjack I know basic strategy, but not much beyond that.

Anyway, any tips from anybody who has been to one of these things would be appreciated. Worst comes to worst, there is an open bar, so I'm a guaranteed winner!

Find out the betting limits at each game to start. If you're playing for absolute peanuts at a poker table (i.e. only limit poker for a very small structure relative to what your stack starts out as), you can't win one of the prizes if people are smashing straight up bets at roulette, or betting really high at blackjack.

My best advice with a charitable casino night... stay calm if you decided to play poker. Why? Because you'll probably end up getting sucked out on by some dude who's never played cards, but called your all-in preflop with 7,8 offsuit, because he was born in 1978. And he "was just feeling lucky" with that hand.

Don't talk about how it was an awful call, or how he's stupid for playing that hand. Just smile, chug a beer, and walk away.

Remember. It's for the kids.

Some lucky guy will bet their birthday on roulette and hit it. Unless you are that guy you aren't going to win it. Play the games you enjoy and be entertained. That's what gambling is. There is no strategy to beat the house.

Enjoy the evening playing whatever games you want. The winner will be someone from the roulette wheel who gets lucky once, let's it ride and gets lucky again. There's no way you're beating that.

My wife used to work at a girls catholic school in the area. I went to their casino night. Since I knew pounding beers would be frowned upon by the nuns I pre-gamed with a couple four locos. Then I went hard at the roulette table and chipped up like crazy. At their event chips we're traded for raffle ticket. I put ALL my raffle tickets in the ”free prom tickets” buckets, telling the wide-eyed nuns I was excited to bring my girl friend if I won.

That was the night I learned not to mess with four locos.

Ina ll seriousness have fun at the casino night.? I recommend playing craps if they have it and pressing hard. Nothing to lose!

I hear all of these statements but believe your winners will come from a single deck black jack table.... that being said I don't enjoy black jack and would be sitting at the poker table enjoying myself and drinking the included beer! Have a fantastic time brother!! This one is not all about winning... that's tomorrow, this one is for the kids!!

Yeah, I just found out we get $25,000 in chips when we walk in. Chip denominations (dice chips I'm sure) are $1,000, $5,000, $25,000 and $100,000. Sitting down with what I am assuming will be 12.5 big blinds will make for a short night, so I think I'm just going to bet my kids numbers in roulette until the chips are gone, cycle through the open bar line a couple times, then go make out with the hors' deurves table. That's right, make out with it. I will be posting a live stack picture consisting of bacon wrapped scallops.

Damn it that sounds awesome... how much were the tickets for this evening? Definitely interested if it ever happens again!
They were $85 per person. I'll let you know when it gets lined up next year. This is a change for the club, normally its a bull roast at Tall Cedars with some guy on an oxygen tank shucking oysters. It doesn't get much more Bawlmer than that.

My wife's work party last year had a "casino" night. I built enough chips playing poker to compete for some decent prizes. We were six handed. The other 5 players at the table might as well have been playing with their cards face up.

Definitely keep us in the loop next time!! Only ever been to one casino night... I have attended and DJed more bull roast then I care to admit!! But for #85 you guys are going to have an awesome evening!! BTW definitely dice chips so load your pockets ahead of time for the win!! Lmaooooo

When the casino night was over. You turned in your chips. You received raffle tickets based on your chip count. After that it was random. I had a shit ton of tickets lol. Multiple 65 inch TV's, laptops, ect.....

At one point colleen asked me to take it easy on her colleagues. I didn't .

We didn't get shit. It was an open bar, and my wife was looking hawwwt in her dress!!! I felt like Matt Damon in Rounders lol.

Oddly enough I’ve actually heard the strategy of don’t play anything as everyone else will and those that do will lose so they are broke and you have your starting amount.

I keep chip tallies separate for my roulette and blackjack tables. The payout variance is just too much. I graduate top X blackjack finishers with top Y roulette finishers to go to the final table.

Yeah, my wife found out that there was 129 tickets sold for tonight and there are 80 silent auction items, so she is happy. Maybe I'll just take her chips.
Amazing ratio! In the same vein, I just last year helped chaperone an “after prom” school/parent sponsored party for a school in a well to do area.

Most kids came and went, or never came at all. 4 “bookish” fellows stayed all night feverishly playing games. I started playing with them to get them more tickets. They pretty much scooped every prize between em. Fridges, beautiful TVs, gift cards, gaming consoles, you name it. Staff parent told me there was like 60k in prizes, they must’ve gotten at least 50 of it.
