I have seen over the years that many members host casino nights.
I thought I would be great if there was a consolidated thread with information about:
-chips needed
-equipment suggestions
-general tips for making things go well
-prizes
-food
-pictures from your parties

I am hoping to host a casino night this summer using blackjack, roulette and craps.

My first question to those that host is what denominations do you use and how large of a set does one need to have things go smoothly for a group of about 30?

i tested two casino party at wedding reception. 3 tables were enough for around 130 people
tables were 2 roulettes (in fact one roulette for two felts) and blackjack
800 ceramics value chips and colored chips for roulette.
at the end of the party there's a fake auction on fun prizes to retrieve the chips (and doing some animation)
in addition to table games you can ask your guest some " mission objectives / role game " with (fake) money prize .

Chips needed: dedicated set for each table game.
Equipment needed: anything you can buy, borrow, or rent.
General tips: dealers that know what they are doing; dedicated person for tending bar, rotating food, general gopher, etc.
Prizes: whatever you want to do.
Food: Local mix of restaurants and caterers, anything special that you can make, be aware of persons with dietary restrictions or allergies.

For a group of 30, you should be able to run 1 table each of roulette, blackjack, and caps at the same time with 5-6 players per table.

I ended up doing my Casino night (my 40th birthday {dec.26th} & New year's Party) on December 31st.

I had 19 people, plus myself (I didn't play, I ran the roulette table) I gave everyone a number (1-3) and that's what group you were in. We had 30 min. rounds, plus a 5 min. buffer for sorting chips, changing chips, etc.

Everyone started with $500 in chips.

We had Roulette, Blackjack & Texas hold'em.
If I did it again, I would probably switch out blackjack for craps. (That table was the least exciting). Roulette had the most energy and I think craps would have given roulette a run for its money.

Texas hold'em can run itself. Every player becomes dealer.
Blackjack one player (who knew the rules) from each group dealt and I gave them $50 worth of chips for their trouble.

Overall it went pretty smoothly, being a roulette dealer was fun, but very hectic. Trying to keep the play moving, paying out, clearing chips, sorting chips after rounds.
I pretty much just worked the whole party, lol!
It was a great time though.

If anyone has questions, let me know.
I kind of just gave snippets of how it was.

- Mike

Straight 5x odds on craps. I see many people suggesting 345x odds because that's common at casinos.

Why? Your goal is not to make money at these events. Craps already has a house edge and you want people to have fun. You won't have to explain the odds to newbies if it is always 5x.

More importantly, make life easier for whomever is dealing the game.

Stick to a straight 5x odds.

Yeah, I would have had very loose craps rules.
Anything to make it easier to play & less complicated for the dealer.

We had prizes for Men's/women's top chip count and 2 door prizes.

not to revive a dead thread, but crapsmat.com has a good description of true-odds craps dealing that is simple enough for everyone to deal. would be ideal for a party like this i think
