I bought my first set of poker chips back when the 2005 CDI’s released. Just getting back into poker after a long time off. I was shocked to see how hard it is to find these chips. Thankfully I have a 300 count set. Wanted more but can’t really find them. I settled for buying the Tiki Kings and just love them. Have the CDI’s become a rare chip?

This was my first set as well, bought in 2005 or 2006. I sold it on here after first finding my way here and learning about all the exciting alternatives that are out there. It’s really a great set though.

I wouldn’t say it’s rare but they don’t fall off the tree either. You’d probably be able to find some on here relatively quickly but expect to pay somewhere around roughly $2.5-3 per chip (probably a bit more for high denoms) depending on condition.

I would LOVE to be in the 2.50-3.00 per chip range again....alas, those days are long gone.

They’re my favorite!

Assuming you think I over valued. That might be true, however I find it hard to believe it’s as far from the truth as you make it out to be.

I am not saying that at all...I am saying you are WAY undervaluing.

'05's are regularly priced in the $4-8 range depending on the quantity and denom.

And they are going to continue to go up due to scarcity...as others have said, they simply are not moving like they used to...because many of us have gobbled up the supply...

Oh, I actually think that would be the way off valuation. This ain’t eBay. Some denoms would probably indeed sell for $4 a piece or even slightly higher but not 6, 7 or 8. If anything, general chip prices have dropped considerably since the 2022 peak. Let’s hope for OP’s sake that I’m right :)

What exactly am I being accused of here good sir? Gobbling up my babies??? Blasphemy!! I simply have a very reasonably sized set

And...
20211111_101549.jpg

A long ways from "gobbling up" or "hoarding" lmao

As many here are aware that took several years and way too many months of my bank account having less than $50 to my name than I ever want to admit to.

As far as value... I would say
$.50 = $4 a chip
$1 = $3 - $4 per chip
$5 = $4 per chip
$25 = $3.50 per chip
$100 =$4 per chip
$500s and $1000s = $5 per chip

Somewhere in those ranges is what it took for me to build the set above... some I paid a bit more... some a bit less, but I would say around those prices is what I have in them...

I have indeed seen people pay $10 chip especially for the high denoms in low quantities on eBay. My thought is they had the majority of what they needed and were willing to pay extra to grab the chips they needed? But not really sure, no chance I'm paying $10 plus for 05 CDIs.

They catch a lot of hate on this forum and whatever... don't like the Paulson Mold well there are tons of other chips out there... in my opinion they are still one of the best feeling and playing chips I have ever found. Coming in right at 10 grams a piece... slightly higher density almost like BCCs and less like RHCs, they are built to last a long time and trully are amazing chips.

If you guys find whom ever is hoarding these chips... let em know I am interested!! Lmao

Sorry to break it to you, but those are simply not the facts as I have seen them over the past 12-18 months. I would buy every single .50 or $1 chip available at $2-$4(or less)...but noone is selling them...much less for that.

If they are not being sold here...at all...,much less at the value you claim....other than eBay, where might you suggest someone go find a barrel or complete rack here or there?

As someone who continues to build out his '05 set for the past 4-5 years...and I am in the 4,000 chips and counting range...I have been uber vigilant in monitoring both here and eBay...

Oh and that includes doing the last custom octagon build/buy with @Ben8257 for the CDI's...2 years ago! (His set exceeds mine by at least a 1,000 chips, not counting plaques and octagons, and yes Ben I would buy a rack of your 50 cents TOMORROW if you'd let them go LOL!)

I would consider this somewhat overvalued. $3 top for most cash denoms, possibly even less for $25, perhaps a bit more for $500 and $1000, but no way approaching $8 in a sane universe. Also assumes EX-NM condition.

$4-8 per chip is probably at the lower end of the CDI98 value range, also assuming EX-NM condition. Original $0.50 and $1k will even exceed this often.

And to be fair... I have been out of thr 05 CDI game for a couple years now... that is what I paid before everything went crazy! I 100% agreeI haven't seen many of the 05s changing hands much at all in the last couple years.

The only thing I have to go on is eBay pricing and yes it has been much higher for these than they used to sell on PCF for.

But I do agree... I don't think anyone is going to find them for sub $4 a chip anymore... but I also think there are huge sets if these out there... so really the value is always fluctuating like anything else. If a big set is found and released for lower prices... well the ole value goes back down. But to insinuate that these are "rare" nah, not rare... just haven't been moving much the last couple years. And again why the value can fluctuate... you have a couple people coming in looking for them specifically ya know the ole "these were my favorite back in the day and I want them again!"... especially when they haven't been moving and boom! The price stays high... for a while.

With true "rare" chips... the value isn't as likely to fluctuate as much as it is less likely huge hoards are hiding and honestly I think more people in the "middle age group" of life remeber these from their early gambling days and keeps that nostalgic value high... rare chips have 2 - 5 owners and other than a single here or there... they never move.

All that said, also keep in mind just like the OP here... the hobby is always growing and they aren't making more chips. Hence only one direction for the value to go on these...

That all being said I am growing my 300 pc set $3-4 I am buying just send me info.

If you’re actively building you obv have better info than I do and if you’re willing to pay $5-8/chip you must really like them. Again, I think they are great but I couldn’t sell you fast enough at that price point if I had any.
