Amen. This is what makes it simple. This idea of 1 chip = 50 cents is what complicates matters.
I think his original question was about the ideal makeup of a cash game set, but since it’s not really a cash game (until the end of the night) and it’s actually a “chip game,” I have no idea how to answer. Lol

Playing with blinds of .25/.50 would basically accomplish that goal. But instead of counting “chips,” just use chips with denominations on them. The chips are the exact same as cash in a cash game. There should be no 1 chip = 50 cents. There should be a chip that’s actually worth 50 cents.

Yes that is correct.
But in the beginning of the game each player gets 100 of 0.50 chips/ncv/blank ones.
If you raise $8.5, then everyone now needs to start doing multiplication and put 17 of the .50 chips. It becomes an issue if people start raising $2, then next ones raises $5, then next one raises $1.5, when it finally gets to you, you need to count $2+$5+$1.5 = $8.5, so I need to put 17 chips on the table.
If they just put 4 chips, then 10 chips, then 3 chips, I just add them together and put 17 chips, it takes out the 1 step where you need to do the multiplication.

I feel you. Once I started reading PCF, and how people play cash game, it started to hurt me too. We have been playing this way for 5 years and now I am reading people are playing completely different

Was looking how to break down the chips.
Each player gets 100 chips of .50 chips. So i know I need at least 1200 chips like this to cover buy ins? and maybe 200 chips red of value 5?
I am trying to design my chips and order them from CPC, so don't want to order unnecessary amount of chips, or be missing some chips.

If what you do works for your game, then great. But no one runs a game like that.
YouTube “The Big Game” which was put on tv by PokerStars a while back. There are multiple episodes/seasons. Notice how the chips they play with are worth actual money. Someone says “Bet 5,000,” and they toss in a chip that is worth $5,000.
Yup... spent a good amount of time offering advice which seems to have fallen on deaf ears.
Comes to a chip/poker site. Desperately needs help with his game setup. Asks for advice, then proceeds to ignore said advice... I was pulling for the OP, but he’s losing me quickly...

After reading this thread I was 90% sure OP was going to be from an obscure country somewhere in Urasia. Turns out from New Jersey. so I was pretty much right.

Most people on here would prefer to setup their cash game differently. Something like the following:
Players generally start with 100 big blinds, or more. Starting stacks of 50bb generally lead to more all-ins, and less poker plays. If the original buy-in is $50, I would play either .25/.50 blinds, or .50/.50 blinds.
Let's do .50/.50.
Starting stacks
.50 x 10 = $5
$1 x 20 = $20
$5 x 5 = $25
You build a set with 35 chips/player, rather than 100. It's more efficient, and cheaper. If I want to make a standard pre-flop raise of 4x the big blind, I would throw out 2 $1 chips. Someone could call with 4 .50 chips. If someone wants to call, but happens to be out of .50's and $1's, they could call by putting in a single $5 chip, and getting $3 back from the other players' bets (AFTER all betting is complete). It's like playing with actual cash, but the chips easier to keep track of, they look pretty in stacks, and they're fun to shuffle.

In my example above, you could accomodate 10 players with the following set:
.50 x 100
$1 x 200
$5 x 160
$25 x 40
400 chips, with a total bank of $2050. Your current setup takes 1000 chips to total $500.

I don't understand. I explained how we play our game as everyone kept saying they are confused, their head hurts etc. I saw your advice and thanks for it.
I don't get how I can play $.25 chip games, if the lowest value of the chip we play is $.50. Everyone at the beginning of the game wants to have 100 of them.

When we begin the game, everyone buys in for $50 and they receive 100 chips each, either ncv or blank or 0.50 chips
so when 8 players come in, we need at least 800 of the basic chips

These are the crappy Dice chips, most of them are blank, sometimes we have a set with numbers on them, but no $ sign

Don't give them 100 chips. Give them 35 chips of 3 different denominations. We're just trying to make your game simpler. Maybe you could join some other NJ-area game for a night to see how it would work.
