I hosted a cash game yesterday which was highly appreciated [patting myself on the back]. I've read some threads about how to handle seating at a cash game, and the consensus seems to be to let the players choose their seats, which I normally agree with.

I thought I'd throw this into the mix: We were 13 players, and to mix it up a bit we decided to draw tables and seats every hour. Nobody complained, everyone seemed to like it and it was fun to get a new dynamic every hour.

It also, for me, really nailed down the point that game selection is one of the biggest factors that determines your results. That hour when I sat 6 handed with the three best players, this scrub donkey was not feeling comfortable at all! :bag:

In for 200... then 100 more... felted! 200 more... out for 544 for a nice mediocre payday of 44 doll...I mean Swedish kronor.

I draw for seating at my home games.

I wouldn't like re drawing every hour. I think once or twice a night would be fine.

We have 10 minute breaks every 90 minutes and we redraw seats. We are a very social group and some people will be sad if they don't have time to catch up with someone across the room. Letting them always sit next to the same people probably wouldn't be good for the game.

We do this also. Redraw once halfway through the night.

We draw seating for all cash games. I understand the desire to redraw seats but every hour seems excessive. We use seating chips for cash games which helps address late player arrival.

I like this pic, because without zooming in more they kinda look like paulson classics! Which they may or may not be... :sneaky:

I am not going to disagree with this. However, because of reasons this night was more about the social aspect than poker, more so than a normal social poker night. Therefore all of us agreed to redraw often to allow everyone to play everyone. I even overruled the draw once when two old friends for the third time got different tables. :)

I am not a big fan of 10-handed play, I'd choose 5+5 any day of the week. But because of the reasons above, we merged to one table when we were down to 10.

In case we play more than one table, every 30 minutes, the players in the big blind need to switch table

This is actually a very good idea! Leave it to a German to come up with an efficient method!
If an odd amount of players, move one player, if even move both BBs?

Is that square topper neoprene? Available in US?
Yes, and I don't know. I bought from a French site. They are available in different sizes and shapes, these are 140cm × 140cm

Yeah, no right or wrong, just what works best for our games. Hope our players appreciate how much time and thought goes into hosting to ensure players have a great time! Cheers!

Players choose their own seats. If two tables, never a redraw. Tables are assigned based on the order they confirmed that they want to play.
