So me and some coworkers have started doing a small home game. We usually keep it to 3 denominations no higher than like a dollar so like quarters half dollars and dollars with a buy in of like 20-25 dollars. Also it's just dealers choice not really one game. Not more than like 6 people at most. Should I do dimes instead of the half dollars or I think that's kinda small.

Also for a max of 6 people with 3 denominations how many chips should I be considering.

Thanks for the advice.

It all depends on what kind of buy in everyone is comfortable with. For a $20 buy in with 0.25/0.25 or 0.25/0.50 blind, including only quarters or dollars is going to make the game pretty short stacked.

A $20 buy in playing at 0.25 blinds would probably break down to something like this:

20 x 0.25=$5
15 x $1=$15
For a $20 total

Get some nickel chips if you want to play a game with lower blinds that would have deeper stacks. Nickels have worked wonders for my cash game. Gets the nits to play more hands. Personally, this is what I do (.10/.20 blinds without straddle)

25 x 0.05=$1.25
25 x 0.25=$6.25
5 x 0.50= $2.50
10 x $1=$10

$20 total

To do this, if you have a game 5 or 6 players deep, you should get about 200 nickels. At least 200 quarters. At least 100 $1's. Need the extras to allow for rebuys. If you add 50 cent fracs to the picture, I'd have at least 50 of those. If you're obsessive compulsive like me and need an exact even number of chips to fill in a rack, get more quarters.

My current workhorse cash set has this breakdown (I usually play a 6 person game)

200 x 0.05
250 x 0.25
100 x 0.50
250 x $1

Total: 800 chips.

A little overkill on the $1's and 0.50, but I've found that the nickels and quarters are just right for my game.

I'd play .25/.25 max with $20 buy-ins. (As stated before, maybe get dimes and play .10/.20, or or nickels and play .05/.10)

I'd skip the .50 chips altogether. They clutter up the pots, and take up chip space that could be used to increase your bank.

If 6 is the max, I'd do the following as minimum:
25¢ x 100
$1 x 200
$5 x 100

Total bank of $725, or 36 buy-ins at $20/ea.

Get rid of the half dollars if you use quarters.

I assume by your question that you are using 3 different chips colors without value.
If so you can go for

100x 10¢
100x 50¢
100x $2

$20 buy in can represent 100 BB as follow
15x 10¢
13x 50¢
6x $2

We occasionally do .25/.25 with a $25 buy in for fun. I issue 20 x .25 and the rest in ones. Any rebuys are done in fives.
