Starting a NL home cash game with up to 2 tables. Looking for quality new chips from $1 to $25 values. There are so many different options, looking for advice on quality chips without breaking the bank. I read somewhere that you want to stay away from 14g chips, don't know if this is true or not. Just looking for some direction.

Thanks

Hobbyphilic is a member here and makes the best hands-on videos with different chips. Great place to start is his 2025 chip guide here:

If you want budget custom chips, it'll take a few months but the "TINA" chips are generally considered the best deal and group-buys are facilitated here on the forum. If you don't need custom there's a couple budget options, mostly differentiated by what material the chip is made from. "Quality chips" on the forum can be anything from $0.50ea to $12+ per chip. If you've got a big budget, simply go to tigerpalacechips.com and pick up the right size set and you'll never have to think about poker chips again.

Hi, to best help you people will need to know things like what is your budget, how many players do you have at your games, what are the stakes that you typically play?

I'm not sure what a 14g chip even is to be honest. Many people who are looking for a set without spending too much turn to the ceramic group buys run by Justin every month.

This process is likely extremely confusing to a new person.

@Yeroc - this is a group buy for chips run every month by a guy named Justin. A member can submit artwork for a center label (the hybrid option) or artwork to me directly printed to the blank chip. He puts a large order in every month to get a discounted price we can all share

Hybrids are ceramic chips made to look like clay with a center label. They are very convincing and exponentially cheaper than real clay custom chips. They take about 3 months to deliver and are 47 cents a chip for 39mm vs $1.75 - $5 a chip for real clays from Classic Poker Chips. For this option you pick a colors and edge spot designs from the dozens they have created already…many mimicking real casinos.

No matter what chis you got with Id stick to traditional casino colors as they will be easier to sell if you ever want to. In AC $1s are white…in Vegas Blue. $5s are red and $25s green, $100s black. California has wacky colors so I’d avoid that for your first set.

You also didn’t mention the stakes you are playing and what the max buy in would be.

Here is a set I made for cash to cover anything from a 50/$1 $80 max, $1/1 $120 max, $1/3 $400 max and $2/5 $750 for 10 players. They are racks of 100 and the blue and pinks are .50 chips. You can look at the how I personally built the set by denomination. If you plan to play higher than lower skip the .50 chips and buy more green and black

We typically play a $1 to $3, no limit game. Buy ins usually no more than $250. At most we have less than 20 people playing.
Was thinking roughly 1000 chips, 160 - $1, 700 - $5, & 140 - $25.
Would like to stay under $500

If you'd like to get hands on with samples, I'll ship you 10x different stacks of 10 chips. You pay postage both ways, about $10 each way in a USPS flat rate box. I've done this for one other person here on the forum and they found it helpful. Close to what's shown in this photo, but I can modify it based on what type of chip you're most interested in (if you watch the Hobbyphilic 2025 guide video).

I could see doing a set very similar to this, without the .50 chips. Do these have denominations on them.

They are completely custom designed by me ceramic chips from BR Pro poker. They are US based and around $1 a chip when you order 1000.

The group buys come from China and are half the price. I just put in an order for last months buy. 1200 chips similar breakdown to these. I designed the center label and they will be done on their Bellagio designs blanks. Follow the links on the group buy thread to see the options

Great looking setup

Also remember….ypu afe on a poker chip enthusiast forum. People like chips and often show pick of playing with large piles of them. In a real casino (at least in AC and Vegas) they try to limit the amount of lower denomination chips on the table. If you cash in for $300 for a $1/3 game you will get three barrels of reds. The dealer will make change with $1s on the table. It’s not as convenient in a home game because there’s usually not a dealer sitting with a bank in front of them. However, it’s very easy to make change out of the pot when the betting round is done. And our game that’s usually the job of the current dealer

Point is, if you want to keep the costs down with less chips just buy more higher denominations like $25s

That is similar to what we do, we try to limit the $1 chips on the table, when starting we usually give out 20 $1 chips at buy in and no $1 chips after the game has started or for re-buys. We have a couple guys who are licensed dealers that also deal at a couple local cash games and tournaments, so we usually have a dealer for the home games. Seems to run a little smoother faster.

Nice chips but a little more than I want to spend.
If you can wait 3 month for delivery do one of the group buys. That’s the best deal. Custom chips for less than .50. You can get 1000 for $500

I’m personally not into the imaginary or old casino named chips. I prefer a custom design or a generic. If you don’t want to do artwork, these are already designed.

First are the Rounders chips …if you didn’t get that. They are East Coast colors. The Huslter are California colors. Below that is a spin on an old Paulson generic design that I always loved. They use the blue $1 which is Vegas style
