I picked up a case of random chips over the weekend and am looking for help identifying a couple or getting some history on them. I'm not big into singles so I'm going to keep the few that I like and part with the rest but I'd like to learn something about them first. Any info anyone has will be helpful. Thanks.

Beware lots of photos (fronts and backs)

To me this is the most curious of the group. I've personally never seen a chip this size in person before.

I believe I saw one of these Horseshoe 10k chips in the classifieds recently. I think I read that it was rare?

This one was in a case. Not sure why other than it says 1 of 1,111.

I love the color on this HOF chip

I believe I remember reading about a group buy for these Tropicana chips from someone that had a bunch of them?

Not sure if this is the entire set of the "Seniors" edition chips. At least I got Doyle.

Chinese New Year chips?

Can't find any info on this Palms/David Spragg chip

I believe the rest are all pretty straight forward casino chips. Not sure what the deal is with the Hollywood Park "Instructional Only" chips though.

Nice find. Best bet for retail is to go to spinettis site single chips purchase and you should find a majority of them. Now this is retail so I’m not quoting value from that but @Okku could help in all probability. Good luck, dibs on the dinner plate chip if it goes for sale.

Good idea. Might at least get a description about the history of some of them.

I'll definitely let you know. Do you know anything about that chip? Paulson fantasy set?
Paulson Fantasy set of some sort. There are a few other chips from there, but I've never seen any quantity and you can't really find anything about it on ChipGuide.com

Thanks. I haven't seen much posted about them but would love to see photos of the set. Someone must have them hidden away in a vault somewhere

@David Spragg was kind enough to give me some info on this chip. He makes a card capper for all of the participants at the annual CCA poker tournament (been doing it since 2004). I was already a fan of this chip the moment I saw it (so bright) but knowing where it came from makes me like it even more.

Very cool find!

About the "Instructional Only" chips - when Cal/Poker dealers practice in the Training room, the dealer trays have these chips in them so that the dealers can practice without using live chips. They have different ones now though.

Looks like you also have some of the older brass core Lunar New Year chips. The casino used to give out red envelopes with $8/$5/$2.50 chips every Chinese New Year to players, but they do it differently now. This year, each floor was given a 2025 $8 chip to give to their favorite player. Also, they stopped using the brass chips in 2014 or 2015. The CNY chips these days are made out of some type of ceramic.

Thanks for the info! I had a feeling the Instructional chips had something to do with dealer training.
I didn't know the Lunar New Year chips were given out like that. They're cool chips so it's kinda sad that they replaced them with ceramics. These things have some heft to them too. I wonder how many are out there in the wild. I'm assuming they are obsolete and no longer live?

I know - the older Lunar New Year chips are very beautiful. I have the 1997/1998/1999 set, and I think they're way cooler than the newer ones.

Except for the $5 orange promo chip, the other chips are so old that the Cage won't even honor them  :ROFLMAO:. Apparently, they're only allowed to accept the newer ceramic Lunar New Year chips. If you wanted to redeem them, there was a specific day a few years back that you had to cash them in by. But the $5 orange promo is still used every day!

Bummer but good to know. Saves me from a wasted trip out there with a bunch of obsolete chips  . Looks like most of these will end up in the classifieds once I get around to it so they can find better homes.
