Canada Post Striking again (2 Viewers)

Unfortunately Canada post is not sustainable in its current model. Additionally every labour disruption results in business using private industry. These contractors work more reliably and often at the same or lower cost of Canada post fees. It is an essential service of a state of maintain a postal service but unfortunately Canada's is in a real financial mess.

They are not striking *again*. This is a continuation of their previous strike. This whole time they were ordered back to work by the federal government at the time. They have been without a contract for a while now.

Very true.
The problem with Canada post is that they expanded into becoming a package shipping business as letter mail decreased in volume to supplement income. Of course unreliability and cost created an opportunity for the private sector. The loss of market share has left canada post with too many workers and a model of delivery that is no longer needed at the scale it used to operate. The trouble is the gov't tried to move Canada post into a market beyond its scope of moving packages competing with the private sector. They should have stuck with letter mail and small packages allowing contractors to compete for the rest of the large package business.....

It would be nice to negotiate a raise for all workers but the reality is many of them have nothing to do. My neighbor works for Canada post as a letter carrier locally. Some days he only works for a few hours because there isn't enough mail to deliver for a full day. It's a plumb job now but he's worried he may not have a job at all soon.
