This is my first post after joining 5 minutes ago so I'll try to make it interesting.

I have no idea how to play Poker but over the years I've accidentally caught poker games on TV while channel-surfing. Although I've never had any real interest in playing, I watched the games as a challenge to try and figure out the rules.

"If you have no interest in poker then WTF are you doing here?" is probably your question at this point.

Just last month I was invited to a dinner party and the host offered everyone a game of poker afterwards so I thought sure, why not? It'll be a new experience for me to actually play a game for once. The host was using real dollar bills and quarters as chips which I thought was funny. Seeing that I was a complete novice, the host explained the basic rules (some of which I figured out on my own over the years) and the four of us played a few games. It was fun.

I decided to buy the host some poker chips, which are just pieces of cheap colored plastic, right? I mean what else is there to know? They're all pretty much the same, right? So I went to Amazon to buy a set and was surprised by the variety. To become more informed, I went on YouTube and quickly found HobbyPhilic's videos, at which point I discovered just how deep this poker chip rabbit hole goes. Holy Jesus! ABS metal slug Monte Carlos, Ceramic Tiki Kings, Milano China Clays, Top Hat and Cane, etc.

Now here's the part that makes no sense at all: After binge-watching hours of poker chip videos, for some irrational reason I really wanted to buy a set of 500 Paulson Top Hat and Cane. It's not like I was going to use them; I just wanted to have them. And of course, come to find out they don't make them anymore. Bummer. Next best thing? Either used casino chips or Classic Poker Chips dot com. Went there and found a link to a YouTube video of Adam Savage's poker chip set from Rounders. Rounders? What's that? Oh it's a movie about guys playing poker and apparently it's quite popular in the poker community, so I watched it. "Gimme 3 stacks of high society!" :-D

Anyway, to make a long story short I wound up buying 500 Rounders and 600 Atlantic Club chips and I have no idea what I'm gonna do with them. Also got a Versa Games birdcage for the Atlantics and a Versa Games flat case for the Rounders.

This literally might be my favorite "new member" post ever!! I literally died laughing! Don't even play poker and already obsessed with chips... you are going to fit in fine sir!

I read your post to @FordPickup92 as she is cleaning chips currently... she laughed and said

Also this group are a bunch of enablers. Paulsons are still available at retail @ apachepokerchips.com

CPCs are awesome, I hope you went with CSQ over Scroll mold... but both are nice. If you get a chance grab a sample set of maybe the Indiana Grands and check out some RHCs. By the way Paulson Top Hat & Cane is a general term. We have THC(39mm), RHC(39mm), IHC (43mm), FHC (48mm) also 36mm and no mold 50mm. Then There are different clay manufacturers BCC, TRKing, Burt Co, C&J, ASM (the original CPC) then ceramic, hybrid ceramic, high end plastics... this rabbit hole is very deep! Hope you two sets scratch the itch! Lol

Greatest 1st post ever! Welcome!

Most people here don’t play poker as much as you’d expect. The idea of poker is more important than actual games for most. Welcome to the hobby. Also, I’m just guessing this is not the first or last rabbit hole you’ve fallen down.

Poker chips draw you in. You dream of winning stacks and stacks because that means you're winning AND they equal money. So it's easiest to just buy them and always have stacks and stacks around. It's comforting. I think we're all like that survivor from the Essex, who spent countless days starving in a life raft at sea, who had to resort to eating the only thing available after his mates died. They say that guy, for the rest of his life, would stash food in secret hiding places, so he'd always have some nearby. We poker players have gone through endless traumas of losing countless chips - it's nice to always have them nearby.

Welcome! Reading this introduction was a delight.
Your journey feels very relatable and hats of to you for starting out with high quality clay as your very first poker set!
Can't wait for you to show pictures of your sets and I'm excited what's next on the agenda. A nice poker table maybe? You gotta felt those bad boys at some point!

Welcome!

Amazing OP! Haven’t enjoyed one as much as this one since @Hammer2171 ’s legendary post (can’t seem to find it now)
Always keep that link close to heart.. it is a treasured classic!
Thread 'A bunch of Scrub Donkeys' https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/a-bunch-of-scrub-donkeys.45506/

Seems blasphemous compare to a particular book we are supposed to read daily in our lives... but that post is one you "should" keep in your thoughts at all times as a chipper. Along with what mamma said was the golden rule "do on to others as you would have them do onto you!"

Also hanging above the urinal at my old company in a needle point old crappy frame... I have never forgot "I keep my lips sealed till anger goes away, that others will remeber the words I didn't say!"

Happy Hump Day Y'all!!
