There's a new proposed casino, called Camellia Bay that will be located about 30 mins from New Orleans.
It will be located in Slidell (known locally as the camellia city and about 20 min drive from where I live!).

Here is a link to the propaganda website. It has details and things, but mostly propaganda to vote in favor of it.

Voting to allow the casino is today across St. Tammany parish (the county).

A poker room is already in the plans. Along with hotel, pools, music venue, and a marina.

We'll see if I'll be able to play at a new poker room!

I think I know someone who lives there. Interesting if they open soon. Wish it was legal here.

More info and background....

Peninsula Pacific Entertainment (P2E) is the company behind this new casino.
They bought a gaming license from a casino that is shutting down in the northern part of the state.

On a personal note, I don't know why they decided to move the license from northern Louisiana to my neck of the woods, because there already is a lot of competition on the gulf coast (Gulfport and Biloxi MS) and with other casinos around the New Orleans area. Though each of those other locations are at least an hour drive away. It remains to be seen if that is far enough away to get enough business to sustain themselves.

I feel like it's a good location for a smaller casino. It would basically take all the commuters that don't want to drive 30ish minute to Harrahs. Biloxi might be too far.

Well, it looks like this is all moot.
Preliminary results from the vote indicate that this is going to be shut down before it can get started.
Oh well.
