Board Gamers Poker Chip Interest Thread (6 Viewers)

As far as design, as long as blue, black, and purple are easily distinguished in not great light, they will rock. This is a big complaint with a lot of cheaper chip options in board games

With the set of Majestics that I own, the contrast is fine between the blue, black, and purple. The Majestic purple is much lighter than many sets, basically a lavender.

Based on the image, the purple will be closer to a Milano purple; which should still be fine.

I'm very excited to see this, I'd been emailing you about potentially doing something custom but this seems much better and easier. I'd absolutely be in for a 350 chip bank.

I do think you are going to want to consider adding at least labels for $2, $10, $25, $50, and $5000 and selling blanks. A lot of board games utilize different denoms, so customizable options after the base set is going to make these a lot more desirable. After seeing the fast response over on the Reddit thread, combined with the overall dissatisfaction of the offerings from the Iron Clays Kickstarter (a competitor chip if you aren't familiar), you are going to be able to sell a lot of these if you additionally offer blanks with labels and move further away from the standard poker set appearance.

I'm here for an 18xx set. As long as those denominations are available, I'm happy.

(1-5-20-100-500-2000)

I have been approached by the owner of an 18xx board game to make a general purpose set for gamers.
For this project to move ahead I need at least 30,000 chips to be sold. Pricing will be $.35 each.
The chips will be 39mm. For board gamers a grey 20 and 2000 chips are required. So this can crossover for poker sets I can add .25, 25, and 1000 chips.
Here are some early concepts. Spot patterns and center art are not locked in yet so some changes will happen as needed.
If you are interested let me know. Please post information to generate interest in board gamers forums if you can.View attachment 299412View attachment 299413

These look awesome!!! I came here from r/boardgames and made an account to let you know I would buy a set of these for 18xx games.

I so agree with this post!

Offering blank chips with denomination labels for buyers to mix and match would be an excellent option. Doing this might lead you to offer the inlay labels in the same color scheme for all the denominations. The more I think about this whole project, the more excited I get about it.

I really like the idea of being able to choose which color represents which denomination and having the option of applying the stickers to the chips that I want to be a different color than is offered in the standard set.

These look fantastic! I would absolutely pick up a set of these, either with colored centers or gray. My preference would be colored.

I'm interested. I prefer the black and gray inlays.

EDIT: I also came over from /r/boardgames

Very interested in a set of these! I am not too fussy on denomination/color conventions so these look great considering the price, quality, and design for board gamers.

If a run is produced, when can we expect it to be available for sale?

Hello, saw the post about this thread on Reddit. I was previously looking for metal coins to spruce up currency used in a variety of board games, but poker chips seems like a great idea and the Iron Clay style seem fairly nice. I'm definitely looking for alternatives though, unfortunately most poker chips I find all scream 'VEGAS!!'. Something simple in design with only denominations and no currency symbols would be great. These look good, but would definitely recommend some change to the colorization, they still seem too poker-like for my tastes. If using them for board games for example I'd want something as theme neutral as possible. Would the denominations be stickers on the chips?

Hey, saw this posted on Reddit. I'd be in for a set of these. I like the black and gray labels but it would be interesting to see a variation with the colored background and black numbers and scroll work.

I like the look of the color-matched inlays. Regarding the color of the 20s, I don't have an innate preference, but I hope the grey has enough contrast against the white 1s. Otherwise, maybe consider using green or yellow (with pink 1000s)?

Any chance of using a European distribution hub to make shipping more affordable to European customers?

Joined PCF to comment on this thread. I'd be interested in a board game focused set. I know it is not what was offered, but I think I might prefer ceramics so as to down play the casino look.

I agree with this, I would love ceramics. I use crown laurel chips now but the lack of a 20 is killer.

I would be interested in purchasing a set, if they feel like casino clays.

Another BoardGamer here from reddit. Very interested in these chips. Is gray for 20 a standard thing?

I'm another board gamer registering to chime in with my interest. I would mainly be using these for 18xx, but I use chips with some other board games like Power Grid, Food Chain Magnate, and Age of Steam.

I'd be interested in a ~400 chip set of these in a 1/5/20/100/500/2000 distribution. clearclaw's BGG profile is an oft-referenced source for chip counts, and that has a 391 count set with that distribution with counts of 75/77/117/62/40/20, so I'd be looking for something similar to that.

Changes I'd like to see:
  • I like the idea of yellow for 20s; there are already white and black chips, and 3 out of 6 (I know others would skip 1000s like me) denominations being greyscale feels a little drab
  • I really like raynmanas's idea of using 18xx colors (especially the track colors yellow/green/brown/grey) for edge spots and the like; this seems like a better way to reference 18xx games than making, for example, a label with a train in the artwork
  • Progressive edgespots would be best; I'd also be happy with all edgespots being the same (apart from color). Differing edgespots feels like the different patterns should indicate something, as progressive edgespots do
  • I like the colorful patterns on the inlays, but I can see the appeal of all numbers being colored the same--some kind of compromise between the two currently posted designs might look nice. Colorful patterns, but consistently dark numbers.
The chips as currently presented already have me highly interested, and with a few tweaks they almost become must-buys for me.

I just had to create an account to weigh in here:

I'd love to order a set (200-300 bank), but I would want a set of the smaller denominations (1-5-10-20-50-100-200) for what I'm looking to use them for.

Note: I don't play 18xx games, I'm more of a Euro gamer.

Directed here from r/boardgames.

so you know, the way he does these is you will be able to order any amount of whichever denominations you want, in sets of 25 chips.
