As I try to complete my WSOP set, I came across this conundrum. I know oils and time can alter the color of a chip, but these two variations (of what should be the same chip) were vastly different.

Image one is from the thread on this forum. It aligns with the image used on Chipguide in picture three. Lavender/neon blue would be the colors I see.

Image two looks pink/light green to me.

While image three does show that lavender/neon blue layout, it does mention light green as the insert.

What is the most confusing to me is that I have seen both examples listed and sold through transactions on here. Is this just a simple case of discoloration over time because of playability? Or what am I missing as to why these chips look so different from one another? Thanks!

The final two examples are from sales on here. Not the best quality, but it gets the point across.

You're seeing different quality photos in different lighting. All three pics are of the same chip/release.

The first photo is too bright, the second was taken in low color-temperature (yellow-ish) light. Reality is more like an average of those two. I'd provide a photo but the chip I have is at home and nowhere near where I am as I reply to this.

Be warned, if you are looking at the examples on the ChipGuide, quite a few of those were taken many years ago in less than ideal camera equipment and conditions and do look a bit different than reality. In honesty, take any chip photo anywhere with a grain of salt and expect the real item to look a little different than an image on screen, but also pay attention to other clues like low resolution (first image) or an off-white background (second image) that the chip im the image probably doesn't look exactly like that in reality.

Thanks for the thoughtful response!

That was the other theory I had that the resolution/overall lighting/etc. on the images were way different between images.

I sort of ruled that one out in my mind eventually because the disparities seemed too wide, but that makes complete sense in retrospect.
