What is the best way to get a barrel of 1s from a casino in Vegas. They usually tell you to color up when u leave. I’ve seen people say going to the cafe but just curious what the best way is to go about this?

I just say I’m taking these with me.
Pretty much this. They will suggest for you to color up, but you can just stand up and leave with them.

If you feel awkward doing that, just say you want to bring some souvenirs home for friends and family, and that’s the cheapest way to do it.

Generally being a friendly person and/or tipping also helps. Usually the dealer will check their tray for better condition ones, unless they’re busy or generally unfriendly.

Nowadays are buying dollar chips from the cage an instant profit for the casino any more?

Some are easy ($1 & $5). Go to cage and get a rack of chips and sort through them while you wait for table to open up. Put the chips you want in your pocket.

At my local casino, the cage won't give out $2 chips so as I play I pull out the nice chips in a separate barrel. When I get ready to leave I slip the nice barrel in my pocket while racking up. (If dealer tries to buy my blue $2 chips during play, I smile and tell them i can't sell them my "lucky blue barrel"... They know we poker players are superstitious...Lol

Basically what LostOfChips said win them or buy them...

What I got so far

The reason they want to color up is so they don’t have to count out 20 - $1s when cashing you out. If you just say you’re keeping them for a collection, nobody cares.

Table games often have 40 or less $1s. They color up to keep more chips in the till, and avoid needing a fill called in for low value chips.

I remember a story from a dealer that their place had 25c chips until they kept getting "stolen" and used for home games, so they were discontinued.

Go to the cage and ask them. Ask for the nicer ones. This isn’t some kind of grand smuggling act.
The cashiers at Cosmo would vehemently deny your assertion here...I have had ZERO issue from every casino EXCEPT the Cosmo. Pocketed a few nice $25's and 2 $100's at the blackjack table to take home for my game and the dealer went out of her way to let the pit boss know what I bought in for and approximately how much I put into my pocket. Total a$$clowns.

I got a few racks of Binion's a while back. I went to the cage and told them I was getting them for my home game. The cashier helped me cherry pick two racks. It was very quick cherry picking, but still. I did give him a good tip.

If they won't sell them to you at the cage, bring a backpack or get a bag from one of the shops. I doubt anyone cared, but I did roll up some chips into a t-shirt (to prevent noise) that I carried in a small bag.

Places with poker rooms and limit games were always the best.

Backpack + get racks of unit chip from the cage + sit at an empty table and condition sort. Or do it while playing, but don’t lose  :ROFLMAO:
