As I woke up last Friday, something inside me said; "log into your 2nd hand app" (hadn't been on there for at least a few months, even had to reset my password etc).
Within five minutes I was talking to someone that had some "casino jetons" up for bids.
After some exchange we land on a price & the man starts telling me how he has 50 years in the casino business (here in Belgium), starting as a bellhop when he was 16 years old, all the way up to his retirement (where he was ceo of one of the Belgian Grand Casinos (Blankenberge)).
Arrangements were made and yesterday we went over to the Seaside to meet up...
The absolute treasure trove of casino stuff (chips, plaques, accessories, booklets, …) I encountered when walking in to this man's living room was baffling. Not only that, the amount of history this man has lived through, the stories, a lifetime lived in the casino industry.
After getting back home I realised something has to be done to preserve this man's legacy & to get all the stories / life experiences out there for all to see and hear. An interview or podcast style "talk" shall be set up in the near future.
I feel figures like these are often revered or held in high regard in America (or at least notorious), yet here it is often not recognised or seen as something notable...
