Hey everyone! I’m new here and just getting into poker with my friends, and hoping to explore the home game scene more here in the bay

Any recommendations on brands, sets, or tips for a budget-friendly starter setup would be awesome.

Excited to learn from the community and see what everyone else is using!

Welcome! Take your time on here and get lots of samples. Budget-friendly is a really weird term here, the range stretches to a crazy degree, can range from $200 to $2500.

Bottom line: if you want to be happy with a $200 set, just leave here. Its not worth the financial pain. I came here so proud of my $175 set cause it had different colors than the usual home game chips, but now they've got me.

Welcome! I haven't been here long either but it seems Tina hybrids are a great starting point

Welcome. Yup as stated above get samples, shuffle stacks etc. figure out if you want a custom set and set a budget. Good luck. Most things have been asked and answered, so check the search first. :cool

Welcome to the community !

Welcome!

Probably the only way to begin narrowing down the countless options is to have a budget range you define. That will help everyone steer you better.

There's sets on here ranging from $400 to $40,000, so affordable is definitely relative!

Gotcha, makes sense. There is some pretty cool stuff on here though, guess we'll see

Welcome! I've heard good things on here about Olympus Chips by The Poker Store if you just want the cheapest set while keeping close to casino chips in terms of weight and feel.

If you don't mind waiting, going through the group buy like KingZilla suggested is also great since you can customize your design. Don't forget to pick up plastic cards if you aren't using them yet, I personally enjoy Kem but Broken Arrow and Copag are both great value options.

Slowplay Ceramics on amazon are a good deal for quality chips that stack nice. However, if you are into chipping, Id recommend getting a cheap set like that and upgrade by adding on a few real clay chips over time. I regret buying my cheaper stuff early on and wish I just pulled the trigger on some good clay chips. TO each of there own.

Welcome! Read lots, search function for answers, take advice from those you can tell are from the same economic class as yourself. The hole is deep, and can be expensive.

I would not use the term quality and any Plastic Slugged chip in the same phrase. There are better value purchases to be had as well.
