Please ignore all visual factors, aka Paulsons have brighter colours or ceramics can print literally any design you want.

This is based on feel* only. I just want to get a sense of what the community prefers between two comparisons at similar price points. (*weight, sound, stackability, texture)

1) China Clay vs Ceramic

2) CPC vs Paulson

Examples:
  • China Clay
    • Majestics
    • Dunes
    • Bank
    • Pharohs
    • Royals
  • Ceramic
    • Card Mold
    • Tiki
    • Dia de los muertos
    • Other custom
  • CPC
    • Rounders
    • Atlantic Club
    • Key West
    • Customs
  • Paulson
    • Jack Casino
    • Horseshoe
    • Lady Luck
    • THC/RHC/Paulson Mold, too many to list
Poor poll design by me, but hopefully these examples help

A selection of China Clay / Paulson means you prefer China Clay over ceramic chips and Paulson over CPC chips.

A selection of Ceramic / CPC means you prefer ceramics over China Clays and CPC over Paulson.

Fair points. I didn’t want to create too many poll options. Feel free to vote/abstain as you see fit

Your poll doesn't make any sense....

Of all the chips that are currently in production most people will prefer Paulson's by a large margin
That’s what some people thought about $20 vs $25 chip too, but you might be right here. Either way, I’d just like to see the poll results

Ok, then why isn't there an option to vote for Paulson Chips?

It may have been unintended, but this poll exactly exposes the biases of the membership, and how these choices are the only ones to consider when it comes to the "modern" chip economy.

Among compression clay, no mention at all about BCC and TRK
Among the ceramics, no mention of Sun-Fly or ChipCo
Among the plastics, no mention of the higher quality options (Abbiati, B&G, Bud Jones, Matsui)

When viable options are not included in the conversation, they are automatically considered inferior because of the lack of mention, which is a disservice to people who genuinely want to learn more about chip options.

Not to mention the differences between the various CPC molds, and the differences between THC and RHC, and the differences between mint and worn...

This level of granularity is hard to assess and may not be as helpful as you think. That said, data points are useful, so let's see what people say. Nothing will beat using your own fingers, though.

My own votes:
  • No strong preference between china clays and ceramics. Definitely depends on which china clays and which ceramics. I prefer Spirit molds to any ceramics, but prefer most ceramics (including ABC) over most recent-generation china clays. Since Spirit molds are hard to get now, let's call this a vote for ceramics.
  • Paulson over CPC
... but even though I have some preferences, they're not compelling preferences. All chips feel different, but I like the way they all feel. And I get in different moods, so I appreciate having multiple options available to suit my moods.

But if pressed to choose just one, I'll take broken-in leaded THC over any others without hesitation.

Id dare say that the trends/price points you are witnessing already price in "feel".

At the end of the day I wouldn't worry what anyone else prefers. I would try to get your hands on the variations you mention and work it out what you prefer. There is no right or wrong answer. Only your preference.

Broken-in leaded THC or TRK beats everything else by a mile. And that’s not really debatable. Other than that you are missing out some great options as others have pointed out. I won’t repeat them but no one’s mentioned B&G ceramics which are superior to anything from Chipco/Sunfly/Brpro imo (those other ceramics are still nice).

I don’t fully understand the voting option but it always good to have a set of everything just used them for different purpose

A nice Paulson set for chipper group game
Fun and colourful set like ceramic for regular game
A limited set
A Low stake set
A tourney set etc etc

Second or fourth option.
Ok sure, I see that the 2nd and 4th options include Paulson. I still don't understand what I am voting for if I vote for China Clay/Paulson? They are entirely different, thus your poll makes no sense to me....

Slightly broken in leaded Paulson THC /thread.

I don’t understand the poll options, what do you mean by China clay/Paulson or a ceramic/Paulson?
It seems as though I am not the only one that is confused by your options in the poll

Not voting because I don’t understand the poll combinations. My favorite is worn in CPC circle square mold.

Bad poll design by me. The intention was for you to pick between

China Clay versus Ceramics

And

CPC versus Paulson

So a selection of China Clay / Paulson means you prefer China Clay over ceramic chips and Paulsons over CPC chips.

A selection of Cerami / CPC means you prefer ceramics over China Clays and CPC over Paulson.

Don’t know what the heck is going on with that poll, but for me, it’s ever so slightly broken-in Paulson THCs all day, every day.

I just got a sample set of the Abbiati Crown Plaza chips and they feel fantastic. They almost feel like rubber and make a really nice clackety noise.

Hmm. Not sure how to answer here because if I had a preference it’s be FDL from CPC over anything. That said, I personally can’t stand A-Mold and to me feels like a chip-sized construction zone when you shuffle them. Being broken in, too is another factor. I guess I could safely say that China Clay is firmly at the bottom?

None of the above.

Heavyweight TRK
+++1 this ^^^^^
Also not all Paulson molds were created equal.

Leaded THC > all the others
VERY true!! Even a different weight and feel withing the same set sometimes. Not dogging the ESPTs, but I contemplated using the 1k for a relabel with the 25ks. However, the drastic difference in weight and feel made me change my mind.

I just got a sample set of the Abbiati Park Place chips and I couldn't agree with you more. I really love these chips and hope they do another group buy that I can get in on. They are really sweet. I have to say I love all my different chips. I love my Paulson sets and I love my chipco sets. Now I want to get some Abbiati's too.
