Tourney Balancing tables - who do you move? (1 Viewer)

I thought it was pretty standard that you moved the next big blind, when you have to take somebody off a table. That seems to be the safest way of not screwing somebody into paying two big blinds closely together. And it would seem especially important in this age of big blind antes.
Last night I was watching the pokergo US poker open $15,000 NLHE, and as they were approaching the bubble, they had to move somebody off the feature table. They dealt cards to decide who moves - totally random.
Is that the new standard?

I’ve only drawn cards to balance tables for cash games. Never done that method for tournaments.
My places have always been kind of small (tight), and my tables are 8-9 player tables. While I haven’t always just taken the next BB, I’ve always tried to match the position of the open seat. That way I’m not making the whole table move. I’ve taken buttons, UTG, or whatever position would be the same on the new table.

I count how many seats behind the button the open spot is and take the player in the same spot to move. Keeps the number of hands until the blinds the same for the moving player.

You should count seats in front of the button, not behind. If you are balancing an 8 person table and a 10 person table, and the open seat is one behind the button (or 7 spots in front of the button) and you take the person behind the button from the 10-person table, you are taking the person 9 spots in front of the button.

Always have to count the same direction the button moves, clockwise.

If it’s a hectic tourney I’ll just move the seat behind the current button. Life’s not always fair.
Same deal with bartenders I think, if you order a complicated drink during a hectic time they are going to cut corners on it and maybe leave out that splash of vermouth.

I let TD tell me who moves where. Any complaints get told "the computer does it not me"

We use next BB moves to the next BB at the new table.

Does anybody see this at casinos, this random dealing cards method for moving? I’m just wondering if it’s a new thing?
