Hello good people of PCF!

I've had some ideas for another custom set for a while (my current ceramic tournament set). I wanted the set to still feel coherent with my current set, while doing a more traditional cash set design with progressing spots and more colors. The goal is to create something that feels distinctly Aurora Borealis & Norwegian, with strong colors, while still retaining a clean & elegant aesthetic. And of course, without becoming too busy or gimmicky, and not sacrificing good color combinations to necessarily "force" the theme across all areas.

Setting: Northern Norway during winter with mixed color variations of Aurora Borealis dancing across the sky.

Progression with simpler spots and more monochromatic colors, gradually progressing into more advanced spots and more contrasting colors. The spots start out at larger, while gradually getting to the smaller spots.

I have included two examples of the 1s and 5s.
Which do you prefer? Of course I very much would like feedback on the others as well =).
Spots - progression - colors - inlay - thoughts? Thanks!

Mold: Web.

I found the web visuals to be the most fitting tina mold with its interconnected pattern. It adds a nice visual detail without taking away from the central aspects of the design. It can resemble the pattern in the snow crystals or cracked ice.

Bonus chip - Mountains

The non-cash chip in the set, used for misc. like bounty, show ‘em etc. The brown base represents the mountains (we have plenty..), rock and earth, with the copper triangle spots highlighting the warm glow of the house lightning shining around.

1 chip – Green aurora

Green base with mint green spots. The green color is the main/most common color of the aurora borealis, so it felt natural that the lowest denomination chip would feature it, and the lighter green complements it perfectly, as the lights are often a range of colors.

5 chip – Red aurora & Coastal fisherman huts

The red base is inspired by the less common red aurora displays, as well as the hallmark classic red fisherman huts found across the coastal line. Dark burgundy & white spots reflect into the red-dark red aurora color progression, with the white as the contrasting snow & the hut window frame.

20 chip - Snow covered landscape

The bright white base represents the snow, ice and bright winter landscape in Northern Norway. The colorful mint green and purple spots represent the aurora dancing above the snow-covered landscape. It combines the winter and aurora elements and creates a bright visual break between the base and the high denomination chips in the set.

100 chip – Polar night

Black base points to the polar night, which in northern Norway last for about 2 months. The more vibrant colored pink and light blue spots showcasing a brighter and stronger display of aurora cutting through the dark night. I think the contrasting pink-blue colors fit very well along the black base, for the premium higher denomination chip. The spots also progress into a more advanced pattern.

500 chip – The arctic sky & rare blue aurora

The blue base represents the deep blue Arctic sky and an intense rare blue aurora display. The wider spectrum of colors in the spots represents a more powerful aurora storm where many colors appear at the sky at the same time, a fitting culmination for the highest denomination in the set as it acts as a climax of the visual progression: The entire arctic sky illuminated by the aurora.

Looks nice!

I would choose $1b and $5a

The only real feedback is I would be worried about the $100 and $500 looking too similar, might want to lighten the blue of the base colour to make it stand out more. Also maybe consider giving the $100 chip the 5 edge spots and the $500 the 6 edge spots to continue the pattern (2, 3, 4, 5, 6)

Otherwise I like it overall!

Great feedback, thanks!

I was worried that 6 spots was a bit much when doing 3 colors per spot group on the 500. But yes the 2-3-4-5-6 spot groups do look nice!

Lighter blue and spot adjustment on 100/500:

Noice!

You could also play with the “sub spots” and have 3 colours on the $100 and then 2 colours on the $500 to balance it out a little. From a distance the current $500 with 3 colours kind of only looks like it has 2, very hard to pick up the middle purple.

If you did this another pattern would emerge in the “sub” spots, ie 2, 3, 2, 3, 2 🤓

Yeah that is an option, I will tinker a bit with them - Thanks =)

Playing with the 500 a bit more.. =)

Also, I figured going with 6 spots on both 100 and 500 (I really prefer the 6th spot on the 100), and differentiating them with having a gap spot between on the 500.

If you go that route I would really want to avoid having any similar colours (in this case pink and red). I know on screen they don't look that similar, but have to imagine them in a pile in possibly imperfect lighting, I would worry about a dirty stacks

I like the blurple $500 best of the three designs.

I agree with the dirty stack warning.

Very cool set 👍

Noted! Yeah on screen it looks OK, but that's where experience comes in and I agree that would be a very annoying mistake to make. Thanks for the experienced input!

Thanks CardRally :)

The left suggestion was also my favorite (unless I mistook which one you meant), what about adjusting the red to a golden/orange tone?
I really like the peach/bright accent color together with the blue.

(cropped the bonus chip away, as that will never be in the pots anyway, it's just a side-chip for fun stuff).

It helps, but as you can see above your first 4 chips are very clearly defined but the 100/500 are muddied:

1 = Green
5 = Red
20 = White
100 = Black / Blue / Pink
500 = Midnight blue (almost black) / Dark orange (almost pink) / Peach

The peach definitely helps, but the base colour and the red hues are almost matching, still too close if it was my set

Would you go the other direction and do a base colour of light blue/cyan? Then you can still have your peach colour and either keep the orange or change it as needed

Cool theme for a custom set! Only tweak i would make would be to differentiate the 100s and the 500s, if i saw them in a stack together its not easy to tell them apart. Maybe make the edgespots different or choose a lighter color for the 500s.

Also very creative to use AI to show how a pot would look! :unsure:
