Auctions - have folks lost interest (1 Viewer)

This.
Also, auctions are a little bit obnoxious. Of course a seller is entitled to squeeze every penny out of their chips. But that's exactly what it feels like.
Sometimes the seller is trying to find out what market value is. It can be a question of putting them up too cheap and then selling in seconds or too high and everyone thinking you are greedy or loony.

Good point. That seems like a great reason for an auction - when the search function isn't helping.

That’s what I’m trying now with the set of Samurais. I don’t kNow the real value but knew what I would take as my low point and started there.

I love auctions so something else we might think about that will help. Suppose we make all auctions end on Sundays staggered 6 min apart. (Think chips n cats brilliance on eBay) very similar we have all auctions be entered Monday thru Weds (if u notice he’s always done adding Weds and always ends on Sunday After noon.) No doubt he has to be to one of the most successful higher end single sellers on the planet. All auctions ending here 5pm Sundays? OH MAN I’d watch that every single Sunday over football any day and I know consistency grows any sales environment, especially one with a targeted audience. Think barrons.

At any given point in time there is only so much money available for people selling things to find buyers with that money. Ending all auctions so close to each other will force all the auctions to compete with each other over a limited cash pool. That would further depress the auction market.

Possibly but imagine if we doubled the buyers/eyes/wallets because of consistency. Imo I’m small ball but money is not the object here. I have crazy orders to fill and and looking to spend a ton to get them filled. I mean this is baller central. Guys designing custom poker rooms? I just had a guy offer me $10 each for 600 pink/rainbow chips from sac. I was told we came in too light. Needed to double the offer. I think I’ve personally missed THREE auctions I would of liked to own but I could not keep track of ending and got sniped. I’m also hearing “I didn’t know about that” and that’s possibly a result of the high bidder or bidders not exactly hoping for bumps with the seller only to do so once daily. Lol

You can double the eyes on anything all you want - you can't double the expendable cash people have. We had a high time here at PCF in the Spring and Summer, but that is looking more and more like the rest of the economy (fed from stimulus, not from people) as it is now drying up. If you are getting sniped in auctions, my suggestion would be to set reminders on your phone. I did that, and hit my auction.

I've sold most of my chips in the last year just because I had things come up that I needed some money to fund like Jeep accessories. I set what I thought were reasonable prices and some I knew would sell quickly even though I knew could get more like this one: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/atlantic-club-500-chips-w-spares-90-chip.64401/ I like to sell to true chippers here rather than eBay. I didn't auction them and probably lost a few bucks, but I don't care.

I factor in that it's like I was renting chips and got back to even, lost some money on some and profited on others. It all evens out.

Ya I did that but it hit at a time I didn’t plan and could not make it happen. I think everyone stuck and home and not playing has something to so with recent surges. Who knows. My buddies are still eating this stuff up non stop. I can’t keep up most days. When does that Sammy auction end again? Lol

To those of you wondering why people can't see the auctions... on mobile devices many of us use the lightning bolt for new posts which include auctions. Those that use tablets or computers do not get the lightning bolt... why I have no clue? I use both and it is extremely annoying!!

This is why you don't see them like the rest of us!

2nd @SpaceMonkey420 If you look back I bid on those chips for $1,000... that set runs about $2.50 - $3 a chip and was started at $2 a chip (some of the denoms sell cheaper but average, I consider that set mint an unplayed for $2 a chip a steal!!) That's more than fair for a starting price and I was willing to pay more! I did have a bid on those, or at least I thought I did... it was cancelled due to lack of intrest and a couple people asked... didn't you have a bid on those??? I thought so too but oh well! Happy with the Burbons I bought today at a more than fair price!

@upNdown your first post in this thread was perfect sir!! Other than rare chips or charity auctions. Everything else man, I'm on the sell them for what you have in them team, or at least fair market value!

Including twice this week I have sold for less than I had invested, not huge sets and more than happy to help fellow chippers in a pinch!! Pay it forward people, it will come back to you in the long run!!

Fellow Chipper Ben

I'm pretty sure the lightning bolt on mobile is the exact same as clicking 'new posts' on a desktop or tablet.

^^^This^^^
Chips are worth what someone is willing to pay at the time, the market fluctuates with those building or adding to sets so it is a moving target. Anyone wanting a set, barrel or rack may pay more or may pay less so when is a good time to sell or buy?
A seller doesn't want to be called out on a public forum for being greedy as @legend672 mentions.
Many have chips they would like to sell and believe in the win more than you lose philosophy. I'd rather win at the table too but if I break even and had a good evening of entertainment and socializing that's a win too.

Is there an easy way to see which auctions are ending soonest? That would help a lot for me at least. And maybe if you “watch” an auction there was a way to be notified before it ended, maybe an hour or half hour etc

Just checked the IPad and yo are correct!! I am such an idiot when it comes to electronics!! Well Dang it... I like the lightning bolt!! Haha
Just tried the bolt myself, and there is a difference. The bolt returns "Latest posts", which is a shorter list. If you scroll down, there's a "view more" button. Clicking that takes you to "New posts", and you see the list of everything new.

I think I'll just continue using ""New posts" from the menu.

Ok - I am trying another auction - I hope folks see it -
