Auctions - have folks lost interest (1 Viewer)

Funnily enough, once an auction is marked sold, it goes back to the classifieds. Becomes a bit of a shit show searching for things if you don't remember the title/thread owner, since you don't even know which tab to browse.
Has this changed recently?

Can we get a section for Paulson chips only so we don’t have to look at a bunch of other stuff? Or conversely, if Paulson is not our thing we don’t have to look at high price shiny things?

I don't think I realized the Auction section needed to be followed separately after it was split from the Classifieds now. I just now clicked to "Watch" the auction threads for new thread alerts. Probably others in my camp too.

I saw a few recently ended auctions I don't remember seeing before that I would have been interested in, but not necessarily bid on. Like the Jessie Beck TRK set.

I'm probably just an idiot, but I don't think historicals work the same.

So if you don't know exactly what the title is of what you're searching for, or who the original auctioner was, you need to go page by page around that time in both tabs. Not a big deal, but I've been through it a couple times now.

I haven't seen anything auctioned within the past (as long as I can remember) that interested me in the slightest. It's not the format...I just haven't seen anything I wanted.

I take that back. I was interested in the set of Jessie Beck TRKs. But the price I was willing to pay was right about the starting bid, so I lost interest quickly.
Anyways, I guess there has been one auction of interest to me lately. But most auctions these days seem to be for stuff that are just not auction-worthy. You'd be lucky to find ONE person interested in buying them, rather than MULTIPLE people to bid on them. Come on, if you if it's not rare/super cool (or for charity)...slap a price tag on that shit.

Hate to brake the THC cult a reality check but I’d bet a rack o RHC Red f $10 Vineyards would sell for $3500+

Maybe (although I certainly wouldn't). But how many racks of those have you seen around here in the past 10 years? Had you been here for the past 10 years...you'd have seen zero. Or maybe MAYBE 1-2, tops.

Over $1000 for a rack of RHC chips? LOL. That is *so* insane. I mean, seriously.

You said the same thing when I bought them lol. I think the Jack fracs are just a really unique combination - the fracs are so limited but the rest of the denoms are so plentiful that there are a lot of potential sets to fill.

In any case, as a recent beneficiary of the auction section, I'm certainly not one to poo-poo it, but I get why people do. Obviously, I think it has its place. There's just not a lot of Jack frac volume out there. I suppose I could have listed @ my purchase price in the classifieds, and then brought them down until somebody bit, but that's just basically just reverse auction. I didn't want to deal with the hassle so I threw them up for 3 days and felt like I got a fair price. For the rest of my Jack's set where prices are more stable, I put up a fair price and they sold. I'm not here to squeeze pennies out of anyone lol.

That said, after taking a ~1 year haitus from PCF, it's pretty clear to me that auctions in general are seeing less action than before. Less exposure from not being in the classifieds tab makes intuitive sense to me, but auction fatigue wouldn't surprise me either.

I’m glad I woke you up from Hiatus lol welcome back :)

Make all auctions have a mandatory $1 max. starting price. This is a site for gambling enthusiasts right?

That’s a little extreme I know but I agree with @liftapint that most auctions have a starting price that is equal to the going price so it’s hard to get interested in those auctions.

FWIW, I think your auction was one rack of chips that were auction-worthy!

my comment was just that *I* couldn’t pay that for RHC chips. But not at all knocking your choice of sales format for that rack of chips. Definitely not. Relatively few racks of them, lots of people want them. Perfect for auction!

Sorry, that was my fault - I only wanted to call out that you said the exact same thing when I bought those same chips, just as a funny. The rest of the post wasn't directed at you, but rather the genearal discussion in the thread.

auction fatigue
cash grab
starting price that is equal to the going price
most auctions these days seem to be for stuff that are just not auction-worthy
Lack of exposure
There's a lot of us who are grumbly about auctions.
Auctions were moved into their own subforum where they're not as visible.

@BHB perhaps a poll?

I don't speak Internet shorthand. What does this /thread sentence mean Barrie?
Ah sorry. I may have utilized it wrong anyways, I'm a horrible internetter. It was meant to impart that that comment was the end of the thread. Like the final or best answer to the question (I meant it half joking, the *toot toot* was me tooting my own horn).
