I think you are talking about Kwikset Smartkey. The keys are easy to change but they can fail. They use adjustable components inside the tumblers not traditional pins. If you live in an apartment or townhome with only one entrance I won't recommend them.
For the past 15 years, I've used SmartKey locks on the six doors at our shop (six knobs, five deadbolts) -- five of the six are exterior doors, all locks are keyed the same. Of the 11 locks, I've replaced 3 knobs and 1 deadbolt over that time, due to sticky mechanicals. Never had one fail to the point it couldn't be opened with the key, but I can see how it could happen.

Great option for a business imo. Re-keying is super-easy (<15 seconds per lock) if an key-carrying employee quits or is fired.
