I don't think I'm opposed to the idea of creating a cash or tournament chip set with chips from different sets, but I wanted to know how other felt. Do you have a mixed chip set? Are you happy with it?

wouldn't have it any other way.

Mostly happy, although both of my main sets are a little *too* mixed, I've learned to live with it. The on-stream main value set is mostly PGI 8V but it has two Majestic colors, and that thickness difference bothers the shit out of me, to the point where I've designed some of the bet limits to ensure that the workhorse chip is the PGI 8V purple instead of the 1k Majestic. That is honestly about a million times more annoying than the Bud Jones S2 set having unweighted $1s and $5s and weighted everything else; if I can find some unweighted blue to use as fracs, that would probably work perfectly.

Mixed sets are fun as it allows for interchanging of chips for a denomination. Also in some chip sets, some denominations are obtainable while others are not so it would be a shame to never get one denomination in play if you can't get all the denominations needed to make the set playable. Just insert another well mixed chip from some other place and get them on the felt.

Lots of great sets here: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/thre...icial-mixed-set-showcase-thread-of-pcf.11227/

Yes, mixed sets are awesome! They can take a while to nail down, but once they’re finished they can be downright amazing!

I have several and love them all.

Mixed set as in 1 set for cash and a different set for tournaments? That has been my plan from the beginning. That's out of the norm?

My mixed sets happen to be cash sets, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a tourney mixed set.

I think a lot of tourney sets come from TCR sales, etc, so therefore tend to be more matched sets.

as in different casino for each denom.
i think a different set for cash and tourney is the norm. im there with ya

Yup. I have a "wanted" cash set. So far there are 3 molds and 4 different sets, mixed. I'm going to add a 5th for the hundros, br pro poker plaques. I'll update with a pic when I get back home (currently out on business). People told me not to mix cpc and paulson, but it worked out that way with the bitchin fracs I got from David. Black solid San Manuel Bingo .50.

Love mixed sets. Gives some variety and interchangability as well. I use different pieces dependent on what we are playing. I'm always looking to swap out pieces of it when I find something I'm interested in.

Greatly expands your chipping experience. Can felt multiple versions of them and keep casual players interest.

Plus, it’s weird, but I think it helps security wise. I think people that see the same chips over and over might “take them for granted” and not treat them as respectively as they would if they thought they were something special every time. I’m sure there is a German word for what I’m trying to say but it kinda feeds into the “unique” feeling each time it changes.

The word you're looking for could be: "Unikat"

Which means basically unique copy, one of a kind for a rarity or peculiarity :D

Could be a different mold, design, etc combined together to make either a cash or tournament set.

A cohesive THC or TRK set from one casino may be very difficult to obtain and is expensive. Putting together a mixed set is much more attainable these days.

I am very happy with the way this lineup turned out.
I feel that creating a set with the same mold is nice. I don't like the idea of a mixed set with chips that may not have a very similar weight, sound and feel.

I agree, though I think it would be mostly weight and chip composition for me. I wouldn't mind diff molds as long as it wasn't mixing clays with ceramics, or nice chips with cheap ABS, etc.
