Are these legit? (1 Viewer)

I'm sure someone with more expertise on these can chime in as to their actual composition, quality and value (I suspect @BGinGA might have some knowledge on these...) but the short answer is yes, they are totally legit, casino-grade plastics made by Langworthy and Co., and I've never seen these particular chips before so pretty uncommon at least. I don't know if ~$1.50/chip would be considered "reasonable" for these or not, but it definitely isn't way out of the ballpark.

Thanks for the reply and informative link Ron(y). Mold type is listed as Langworthy but I wonder what company actually manufactured those chips and if other casinos have used them. Hmmmmmmm.

Ahhhh, Langworthy and Co.....never heard of that chip manufacturer. Thanks Ben!

They are legit, yes, and they are generally viewed as overpriced. This particular set has been available since at least February of this year and the price has come down very little. The seller clearly believes they are worth more than the chipping market does.

I've been tempted to buy it on a couple of occasions because I do like the colors, but I'm over it now.

beautiful chips. I even wanted to buy them ...
though, of the fact that the price seems too
high (one chip). I think that it is justified when
considered as a whole set

As with so many sets, I'd have already picked them up (at a negotiated price certainly) if there were more $5s...

I don't find them beautiful at all. I am curious about the producer as it's a name I've not heard before. The last two chips look the same as the RT Plastics type.

Pretty sure the first two are Langworthy and the last two are RT Plastics. The Langworthy chips are/were an upscale plastic/puck material, with a far superior feel to similar-looking dice-type chips.

Extremely overpriced, imo - even in today's nutso market.

EDIT: Looking over some old photos of Langworthy samples, those last two chips could very well also be manufactured by Langworthy & Company. The mold and markings are very similar to those produced by RT Plastics. Langworthy produced chips in the 1940-1960 era (and later, I believe), originally located in Detroit before relocating to Las Vegas. They may have even morphed ~into~ RT Plastics at some point.

I think you are right, Dave. My notes have Langworthy moving to Vegas in 1962 and purchased by Joe Fabrizio and Don Jarchow in 85. Those are the same guys that started the Gamblers General Store. RT Plastics was also owned by Fabrizio, so i think they continued manufacturing the plastic chips even after Langworthy was sold/merged into Wico in the mid 90's. I think this is why you see the HHR mold referred to as a Langworthy mold and you also see Wico samples on the HHR mold. I don't know if RT Plastics is still in business as they don't have a website anymore. I believe, that most of the fantasy chips that were sold at Gamblers General store were also made by RTP.

Interesting...That might explain why Fabrizio banquet hall is right next door to Gambler's General Store. Although I still think it's hilarious that Spinetti's is right behind GGS. After visiting both, I can't help but wonder how GGS stays in business.
