Anyone take rake or charge a sitting fee? (1 Viewer)

It's ridiculous how difficult it can be to find local ordinances. You'd think that stuff would be online by 2017, but it often is not.
As long as you seriously intend on complying with all laws, you could just go check with your local PD.

I'm not that serious myself, but my HOA is if we want to play at our clubhouse. I suppose the PD is the only way to get the official facts...

Just wanted to add that waitstaff in America make around $3 an hour. THAT is why Americans tip. Nobody could live on that alone.

Yeah i hear ya - unbelievable. Its like when you guys go out you are paying for the staff that help you. Not the boss of the place. It must be great having staff that you don't really pay.

it makes no sense to me.

Maybe their employers should just pay them a wage they can live on.

Resaurants themselves have a very small margin. This is one of the only ways to keep the cost of a diner affordable so the business can survive.

That is the state mandated wage they have to pay. Employers that pay more than they have to are non existent in the low paying job sector.

Take Papa Johns for example. When the ACA (obamacare) was implemented the owner wouldn't pay for employees benefits. He made them go through the ACA process. The reason he gave (in a tv interview while standing in front of his car collection ) was that he would have to raise the price of every pizza by 15 cents.

This is the problem. Pure greed.

Sorry for the derail.

Having had dinners in both Australia and America, I can say that Australian servers are far better than their American counterparts who are "working harder" for a bigger tip.

We have a local restaurant in Dover that does not allow tipping, and pays their wait staff over $15/hour. Since they made the switch, I now spend less, as I am a generous tipper.

So I played in a new to me game last night. It was an interesting experience for sure.

The core 7-8 players of this single table cash game has been playing together for the last 10 years with the last few seats being offered on a first reply text basis.

A good friend that had been a core member but got out of poker finally got me the invite.

The game is $1/2 with a $5 bring in. 2 rounds of Hold'em then 1 round of PLO. $20 seat fee to cover food. Nowhere worth $20 but I'll pay it to play in this game.

There is an additional rake feature that seperates this game though.

Any misdeal costs the person dealing $1 to the host. Anyone that acts out of turn is an additional $1. And the big one, anyone caught farting at the table has to pay $5!:whistle: :whistling:

The game requires player to bring at least 2 buy-ins.

We played 10 handed until midnight when 2 players finally said uncle. One losing $3,600 and the other $2,400. The $2,400 guy was probably the single worst player I have seen in 5+ years. He signed over his payroll check at the end of the night to the host to cover his losses.

Final orbit is called at midnight, but it is really 2 orbits, but each player deals twice in a row and the blinds are raised to $5/5 and becomes dealer choice between Hold'em and PLO.

And of course they add an extra wrinkle to this already crazy game.

If during the final orbit a black Ace comes on the board the player dealing will deal an additional hand with no limit to the number of times this can happen. 1 guy ended up dealing 4 hands in row (his normal 2 + 2 for a black A showing up).

And becasue they are compete degenerates, if a player goes bust and leaves during this orbit their position still deals! So the player to my left went bust before it was my deal I got to be the Button for 4 hands lol!!

Very crazy game, and I'm already looking forward to the next one.

So, if the guy is collecting from 10 players $200 for food/drink, ( Before the misdeal , OOT and Fart penalties), what sort of food & drink was provided to the players at the game?

we have a fart fine too, $1 per audible fart. Mostly because some players really stink.

Nothing worth what is being paid. Pizza, a tray of stuffed shells and a salad. Maybe $60 in food. There was some snacks and pop, water, beer but only 1 guy was drinking and it wasn't much.

We are pretty much paying for the right to play in the game. There was over $10k in play.

I plan on playing in the game 6+ months, get to know them and see who I can poach to my game.

Good table, good chips?

Good table, good chips?

The table is very nice. Raised lighted rail. No racetrack, cup holders in the rail.

Chips are complete junk. ABS slugged Chinese crap. I wheat mold with the 312 spot pattern that all share a color with the next chip. The $25 & $100 get hard to tell the difference across the table.

The worst part of it is the starting stack. My $300 buy-in in got me 10 $1's, 8 $5's & 10 $25's!! I think these was just over a rack of $5's for the entire table

Every hand change had to be made. And when someone had to re-buy it time consuming to get $100 chips broke down constantly.

I thought the $1 penalty was to get players to pay attention to the game and help it move faster, but then why so few chips slowing down the game?

I would love this game. I can see it now...

Zombie walks in. Before he takes a seat, he pulls a hundred out of his wallet and hands it to the host.
"This is so you don't have to count my farts. My regular group doesn't allow me to fart anymore. I can tell you, I'm going to enjoy tonight".
Zombie then takes out a clean pair of underwear and neatly folds them, setting them on the rail next to his seat. "I'm going to need these later, to be sure."

It's always good to make a memorable entrance when joining a new group.

Well I host 16 times a year. I have awards that transfer from year to year. I run it like a club.

To join the club you pay 50$ one time fee for trophies. You also get guaranteed seat and two weeks advance of game night.

Members play 5$ per night and self deal. I provide snack and soft drinks, coffee and ofcourse all equipment.

If there are open seats for guests they are welcome. They 15$ per night and if we like them they are invited to the club.

All money is club owned and does not go to my money. Club owns two chipsets and a great variety of trophies to make the year more fun. ( Player of the year, pot of the year , hand of the year, 4 big tournaments and more )

We often have to pay a little for location and then I pay half and club half. Right now I have 24 members and a waiting list.

And yeah I pay into the club also
