Tourney Anyone ever thought about dropping the T25 chip and starting with a T50 chip ? (1 Viewer)

Trying to understand why you need a decent number of T50's to avoid too much change. You are also forced to have a 25/75 level if you want to avoid a 100% jump between levels 25/50 and 50/100.

Not if you start at 50/100. :)

20K stacks is still 200bb, T25 chips are still in play for 4 levels, and you get a lot more of the nice upper denomination chips in play later on.

Not that there's anything wrong with a 25/75 level, however. :D

I don’t understand either. I’ve never played with 50 cent chips or T50 tournament chips, so I don’t know. But my thoughts are that if you’d never need more than one for any particular transaction, and no more than one would be needed to make change for any particular transaction, then you should be able to get away with four per player.

lol, I've taken my share of arrows for pioneering a wide variety of poker-related causes.

25/75, T2000, multi-use 25/100/500/2000 sets, T.25-base tourney sets, T500-base tourney sets, consistent blind structures, and 100 cash game quarters, just to name a bunch right off the top of my head. I even have a t-shirt:

I probably shouldn't have an opinion, my idea of a perfect tournament is T10,000 with four barrels of green and four barrels of blacks per player. ;)

If you assume 8 T25 as baseline, you'll need 4 T50 (assuming the same structure, starting at T50/T100) at a minimum. Why do I say minimum? Because if you're playing T25s, there is a non zero number of players who will bet 225 for example, in which case you'll need only one T25. So in that case, the balance is not 2:1 and more like 1:1. So 8 T25 is not the same as 4 T50.

Your second point was already responded by Dave.

Be careful what you ask for. I'll have a special stack made up just for you at the next league tournament.

You mentioned it earlier, but flexibility is another big reason to go T25 vs T50 -- not only flexibility in blind structure composition, but increased flexibility in bet sizing as well.
