Any current oversized $5s in Vegas? Easier/cheaper to get retired ones? (1 Viewer)

So my buddy is off to one of his almost quarterly trips to Vegas, and asked if I needed any chips harvested.

I've recently decided I'd love a barrel or 2 of oversized $5 chips.

Are there any currently available in Vegas that you know of?

At $5/chip plus playing time and possible losses, are there any retired oversized $5s available on the secondary market I should look for instead of harvesting?

Thanks.

only oversize 5's availble in Las Vegas are Mandalay Bay & MGM Baccarat chips

If I could find some obsolete $5 and $25 oversized Caesars Baccarat, that would give me reason to start the Caesars cash set I've always wanted.

Always loved @ovo 's Caesars set.

Shouldn't break the bank either as we play micro stakes and have maybe only once or twice put a $25 in play. Don't usually go over 2 barrels of $5s either.

Any ideas for a quarter for a Caesar's set?

If the above are in fact the new Caesars inlays (no horses), I'm not a fan. Reminds me of the inlays on some cheap plastic chips.

Might ask my bud to grab me some of the available (anywhere) live $5 Baccarats for now. Unless Mikko pulls a rabbit out of his hat lol.

Thanks everyone. If you think of anything else let me know, I appreciate it.(y)

*While we're at it, any good condition $1s at Caesars worth harvesting?

Baccarat chips are cool, but if you have to play the game to get them - I don't know. It seems like a pretty insipid, decisionless game. I guess there's a card counting aspect to it. Seems like you're betting on a coin flip to me.

I haven't done any harvesting, but great condition dollars come up on eBay from time to time, usually 20 at a time

this may be a stupid ?, but:

why do they have oversized $5 checks for baccarat? i can understand for something like a $20, since they aren't in most dealer banks (except for poker). and i can imagine why the $2, $3, and $20 often have 'POKER' written on them. but i don't see why they have an oversized $5.

happy halloween!

-gc :)

Was thinking same thing, why different chips at all and why oversized? Sorry i know nothing about baccarat.

Baccarat is an extremely popular game. It may have something to do with keeping the banks separate so it's easier to balance their active bank separate from the rest of the casino which offers the house an advantage.

Not sure what this means. The house has the advantage in Baccarat. And I wouldn't call it "extremely popular"... the game has a very loyal base but I'd suggest the majority of people who play table games have never played it (or played briefly and had no idea what was going on).

Any casino I've been to has three or four baccarat tables on the main floor, a room dedicated to baccarat (Niagara, seneca, Brantford, rama and has one or two tables in the high limit rooms. This game offers slight odds in that it pays less for the banker choice but of all the table games it is mostly a game of chance damn close to 50/50. So maybe it's not popular in Ohio, but in my neck of the woods it's the main attraction.

A good blackjack table has lower odds and craps & Pai Gow (tiles and poker) are barely higher.

My opinion wasn't based on Ohio games, I dealt Baccarat on the strip in Vegas :)

Baccarat was huge for our toke rate @ MGM Detroit (when I worked there). We had this big player Hoot Mcenerny (RIP). Played big money. If he took us for $250K-$1 million. Would leave $50-$60k for the dealers. Toke rate would jump by $5.

So my bud is gambling it up in Vegas (when he's done with the daily SEMA activities), but he does NOT play baccarat. :(

I'll get him to harvest something else. But I definitely want some baccarat $5s. Trying to decide which, as they will kick off a new cash set for me.:D
