honestly, i've had a lot of fun getting a feel for all the different types of chips and designs out there. i think i could get more than enough satisfaction amassing a collection of sample sets, and aside from whatever becomes my "permanent" set, i don't really plan on collecting more than one or two full sets (haha please nobody remember this post in a year)

i'm also not super interested in casino sets or anything with collector value. tbh, as a graphic designer at heart, i'm more interested in pretty designs, labels, and logos! so far i'm very fond of minimalism (Jacks, Diamond Cardroom), luxury typography (Monte Carlo Millions, Empire, Majestic, Monaco Club), cool scrollwork (Ascona, Penthouse, Bank), and analogous color palettes (Ascona again, Casino Royale, Monte Carlo Millions again). some of these got really clashing colors and i ain't about that (honestly most injection-molded clays :/ have any of these designers analyzed a color wheel?! closest i've come so far). not too crazy about maximalism, so most casino-like styles and edge-to-edge ceramics are mostly out. i'm sure that'll get me pitchforked in no time lol

if i were to pick my most likely prospects, it'd be Monte Carlo Diamond and Monte Carlo Millions just 'cuz they're so inexpensive, and then one ceramic set. either i'll sell a kidney for Sunfly's Asconas, or i'll hop in one of the group buys of the 43mm web-mold Monaco ceramics — god those feel so good to play with. i really really hope i don't impulse buy all of them, i only JUST started collecting animation cells too 😭 🫠 🥲👈 💀

i'm excited to start my journey!

Make your own Burbank set.

With like…forest lawn, WB, umm Griffith park. That’s bout all I can think about. Castaways up on the hill?
ahaha, not a bad idea! maybe a plane-themed one as an ode to Burbank's history as an aviation hub? there's plane stuff all over the place. i know Lockheed Martin had an old skunkworks here a long time ago.

i'm guessing you're from Burbank or have been here often? idk, i'm not like super duper passionate about the city itself i just work here lol. if i were to design a custom set based on real life stuff, it'd be related to the animation industry (Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Disney, etc.). more likely though that i'd do something really geeky like idk sailor moon or hollow knight or my little pony or smth lol. (BUT ALSO TASTEFULLY DESIGNED. no obviously cartoony nonsense on the chips. hate that. gotta look like it could be a real world design!!!)

Hello and welcome. I started using poker chips for board games back in college. I don't special games. Just the boring common ones. My group is trying to find fun games to mix in with poker days. So would do maybe 3 hours of board games then 4 to 5 hours of poker. Good luck. Happy hunting.

I'm from everywhere, but yeah spent some school years out that direction. Lol idk anyone passionate about the city of burbank, but as an animator yeah I would think the studios and such definitely might hit home or have some cool topical stuff to utilize. That aspect you mention with the animation industry could be kinda cool, although being minimalist even utilizing their logos in some sense may be too much.

The time spent on the database is insane, but that being said you'll find almost 100% of this forum outwardly appears to be on the spectrum so it's probably not so bizarre here. If you enjoyed it that's great, but dependent on your budget, you're almost 100% better off utilizing your skills to design and have own chips created through either alibaba type folks overseas (this vendor here orders from there regularly, although apparently he doesn't have a faq thing setup), or ceramic chips from BRPro (more expensive but local option). And even if you do the design, utilizing a designer on him just to button everything up, make sure it'll look good chip/play wise, etc. is a great idea for not a lot of cash. Plenty of designers here you can find from simple search. Plus by dropping in a custom order, you can make it so that you can build 1 expansive chip set to cover all your games and their possibly unique numerology/needs.

Hello and welcome to the forum, and the journey! :) Hope to see you around

Welcome to PCF!
, i only JUST started collecting animation cells too
Whenever you think chips are expensive, just wait until you start to deep-dive on animation art! I've been collecting animation art for nearly 30 years and have to be very careful looking too much as I will find something that I want. I unloaded over $4k on two pieces earlier this spring in a big auction in L.A. and still came up short on a couple pieces I really wanted.

Enjoy your stay here and best of luck finding the pieces of art that make you happy!
