I provide the cash game set in my buddy's .25/.50 cent NL home game, and am trying to figure out what's optimal for a breakdown.

There are usually 6-9 players, and buyins range from $60 to $150. But there are a couple guys who will rebuy for anywhere between $150-$250, and then a couple others who will reload $60-$100 a few times, so the game ends up playing more like .50/1.00.

Lots of wild straddles: yesterday we had a couple straddles that went to $16.

So my current set is:
160 x $.25
200 x $1
100 x $5
20 x $20 plaques
10 x $100 plaques
= bank of $2140 (have come close to running out of chips)

Most of the guys don't really bet "properly", i.e. if a bet is $3, they'll put in 12 quarters, or if a bet is $12, they might even put in 12 $1s, because they wanna hold onto their bigger denoms.
The end result of this is alot of delay while guys ask for change/make change with me, or it's just me constantly making change from the pot to make things easier for everyone.

I currently have 300 more $5s on their way to me. The plaques are absolutely loved by everyone. Do you guys suggest anything else besides more $5s? More $20 plaques perhaps?

More is always better right? I think you would be fine with just the 300 more $5s for one table, but if you want the plaques and the players love them why not? As for betting I would have to say something. I have a couple players who do shit like that and it drives me up the wall and they aren't even that bad about it. If it gets too bad I am going to talk about it at the start of the game or send out a group email.

100 x 25c
100 x $1
200 x $5
40 x $20
10 x $100

Give them less 25c and less $1 so they are forced to use the bigger denoms to make bigger bets. Continue to actively make change from the pot at the end of the betting round. Encourage players to call bets with a single bigger chip (or call a $12 bet with 3x $5) so they are not counting out stacks of bullshit... and not making change with another player prior to the call. They will learn.

If even racks aren't a concern...

160 - 0.25
160 - $1
300 - $5
180 - $25

Nice even 800 chips, and a bank of $6200.

Or if you want to stick to 600 chips:

100 - 0.25
160 - $1
240 - $5
80 - $25
20 - $100

Bank of $5385

Or my personal favorite, upgrade to 1000 chips (Lots of great 1000 chip birdcage carriers)

160 - $0.25
240 - $1
400 - $5
200 - $25

I try not to get 5 colors on the table if possible so this is nice to be able to stick to $25's as the biggest chip... Bank of $7280 with lots of pretty chips :)

What if I want to stick to a 400-500 set? Can I get away with 10 people and stay close to a 400-500 chip set without it being a pain for change and no chance for rebuys?

What stakes? What buy-in? How much money does the table see?

I wouldn’t want to play a cash game with 10 people with less than 500 chips.

.25/.50:
100 x .25
160 x $1
200 x $5
40 x $25

$2185 bank

If you need more bank I would get some hundos and some more $25s.

$25 min, $60 Max. I'm guessing 10 re-buys or so. From what I've been reading, the re-buys don't need more .25's. I'll just go 5's and some singles at that point (or bring in a couple quarters). Even at a 3/6 table at my casino, you rarely see quarters. That's my best guess anyway.

For 10 players at 25c/50c NL stakes, you'll want at least 500 chips:

100 x 25c
200 x $1
200 x $5
----------
500 chips = $1225 total bank, or around $120 per player. If you run out of chips, you need either some higher-denom chips or can allow $20 bills to play.

But this would be a better breakdown:

100 x 25c
200 x $1
280 x $5
20 x $20 (or $25)
----------
600 chips = $2025 total bank ($200/player), with more $5 workhorse chips in play, and allowing re-buys to issue $20 chips if needed.
