Hello everyone.
I am stuck on building an 8 man table. I have built quite a few 10 man tables. 8x4.
What is a good recommendation for an 8man table? I plan on cup holders in the rail. No race track.
Thanks in advance and have a great weekend.

I’d love weigh in substantively when I have a chance. I’ve built 7 ten player tables in the last couple of years and have toyed with building a straight up 8 man. Since my high stakes game is in hiatus and we’ve reverted to micro stakes for the budget conscious players and parking has become an issue with a road configuration we’ve been seating 6-7 players. Once our club championship tournament series is finished I might revisit the build and sell my 10 player. Good luck and I’d love to weigh in later.

why not just build another 8x4 table and give everyone a little more elbow room? If you are looking for something a little smaller try a 60" round table, perfect for 8 players.

When I started to consider an eight man, those were my thoughts, exactly. The problem with a 60 inch round table is that it gets a little stretchy reaching for cards and chips and what not and that is not really canceled out by the improved site lines because a round table is where it’s at for social Poker. The other issue that a round table of that size invites is trying to get cloth and vinyl for the rail. Putting vinyl on a round rail that size has to be done or in my experience was done by applying the vinyl to 2/2 circles and then installing the rail. I did build one round table rail in two sections with a seam. It looks good if you do it right in the middle at both sides. the cloth, thats another animal. I don’t recall if you can get it that wide. same with the foam for the table.

If I had it my way, I would build a round table, but that’s an all in commitment to no more than 6 to 7 players which takes tournaments off the table no pun intended.

If I build an eight man table table, I don’t have footprint considerations and would just build it like a 10 man with less spots.

If the footprint is part of the equation, then you gotta dial down the size a little bit, and you can still fit eight players comfortably around a slightly smaller table, notice the improved, smaller footprint, and you’re good to go, but you will not be playing 10 players at that table.

I have 3 8x4 ten man tables that work great. But it's a tight fit. My plan is two fold. get four tables to fit 30ish players and my 'poker room theme' is based on the band KISS. Wanted to get four table with the 4 faces on each table. ( I know, Im a dork..) My chip set is custom Tina Kiss chips.

I built this one at 84x42”, tons of room with about 27” per player. I think you could fit 10 players at this one in a pinch and it wouldn’t be too uncomfortable.

A 60” round will give about 23.5” per player.

If I was going to build another that I know would never have more than 8, I would probably go with something similar to the Gorilla pub table which is 66x44”. I would consider going to the full width of a sheet of ply, so 66x48” just for a bit of extra space. This starts to feel more like a round table for the social and sightline aspects, while still being able to use normal materials and processes to build it.

very nice!!!

I have built DOZENS of 60" round tables and always use Whisper Soft vinyl and it is a tight fit but can stretch enough to get a solid vinyl rail with no seams. Also I just trim the rail foam to width and wrap it around the rail. No need to look for 60" wide foam.

That's a hot table. Sometimes a sneaky indicator of a quality build is the proportions and craftsmanship of the rail. That's nice work.
