Cash Game 500 chip cash game. Is good? (1 Viewer)

So I'm reading all about different cash game sets and It seems like people are recommending much higher chip amounts than I'm using. We play $1/$1, usually 7-10 people. $100 buy ins. We usually get 4-7 rebuys. The game is not at my place but we use my chips half the time. I bring 500 chips. Starting stacks are $1X15, $5X17.

Breakdown:
$1X160 = $160
$5X280 = $1400
$25X40 = $1000
$100X20 = $2000
Bank of $4560

I used to take 1000 chips but that got old quick. So I narrowed it down to 500 and had a custom case made. I figured this set could handle the worst(best) case scenario. $4560 seems like overkill for this game, right? Is there a better way to do it using 500 chips or do I need more? (I know somebody is gonna say "more"..... "why?" "Because more")

That works fine, and sounds like you haven't had any trouble so far? If you want to add to the total bank, you could trim some fivers for more high denoms.

500 chip set works perfect for a one table game imo.

I run a .25/.50 cash game with an 80.00 buy in.

I can do it with 500... Add more $1 and $5 if you feel you need it... I don't.

I like more quarters... making change is annoying.

Depends on your # of players, willingness to rebuy, length of session, games, stakes. 500 chips is not what I want for 1 table $1/1 mixed game, $200 max buyin, no straddle.

Typically that game uses
$1 × 200-300
$5 × 560-800
$25 × 40
$100 × 10

It could be done with 300 × $5, I've done it, and it's not as enjoyable.

Playing NL Holden... Yes. You will be betting with the $25. If you find your group makes small preflop raises and under bets pots, you may need more $1s or $5s... Sometimes also groups like to bet stacks of $1 or $5 rather than a big chip. This annoys me... I much prefer using the big chips in my game.

I have done what shaggy describes above, but honestly if I know we are playing a 1 min blind game, I have another rack of 1's and 5's I fill my carrier with and leave the quarters at home.

I also use a bigger chip on big bets which is why I like a rack of $25 as shaggy states above. If more than 10 show up I can run two tables if needed and easily cover rebuys. Side note, you also quickly figure who doesn't calculate the pot odds math as the bigger chip seems to encourage more action from them, simply because the higher denom chip is in front of them.
