Cash Game $2/$5, How much in chips? (1 Viewer)

If your players are regulars at the local casino's 2/5 game, then you should use have more $5s to emulate the casino breakdown.

Furthermore, do you plan to restrict betting to multiples of $5s and not allow $1s to play unless all-in? If $1s are only for the blinds, you can get away with only 80, perhaps even as low as 60.
Thanks!

A few are regulars, but not all. Probably 3 or 4 of the 8 playing.

I will not restrict betting to multiples of $5. I have enough $1s, so that's not a problem. I may need 1 or 2 more racks of $5s for my HSI set.

I guess I could play with the Rounders. :)

Lots and lots of chips on the table is fun, as long as you’re the one with them! :p

I also agree with the mentality that a player with lots of smaller chips will splash around more than a player that has 40 total chips of the same value. I’ve played in that type of game, have a $2k stack and. 25 chips in a $1/2/5 game and I felt short stacked and needed to play tight.

I like how in this picture the shorter stack across the table is all loosey-goosey eating a sandwich. ;)

More $25 than $5 chips for $2/5 game

Having tons of $5 in a $2/$5 is like having a lot of $1 in a 50c/$1 game, which are both not the workhorse chips
I disagree completely. I play in many private games, some of which play very big, there is never more 25's than 5's. It doesn't matter what gets used, it's what people want to have in front of them. Games with all big denoms play tight and boring. Put 6 racks of fives on the table and watch the play open up.

I will never understand why you need 800 $5 (or even 600) for a game like this. It's similar to having 800 $1s in a 50c/$1 game. I doubt anyone would recommend that.

For a big $2/$5 game I would go something like:
100x 1
300x 5
300x 25
180x 100
20x 500
This comment is meant for the controversial thread. Stacks of $5s please!

if you don't have at least this many chips in front of everyone what are you even doing

Unfortunately, this isn't a game where you will see drunk fools, including me. It will be a much more serious game with players that play $2/$5 at MGM pretty regularly. I just wanted a challenge, so we'll see at what cost...LOL.

But you're more than welcome to join!! First game is 10/8.
Sending good run and hot decks your way my friend…

Small brag post…last weekend at local casino, in for 400 out for 1400, and today in for 400 and out for 1900 (2/4 table)…moar PCF travelling and meet-up funds.

Crush mode hasn’t been on off mode since I came over for PHL…

Game is played with 2, 10 (workhorse) and hundo’s…works well for this game

I'm pretty sure I have this game covered, but I'm looking for a general idea of how much in chips I need, both work horse chips and total?

$2/$5 NLHE
8 players. Maybe 9
$300 min buy in
$1000 max
10 hour session

I usually play .50/$1, and I have a really good grasp on that and $1/$2, but not so much on $2/$5.

Thanks!
Kev
I thought you retired ?

Hey @Seeking Alpha Social Club, I'm late to this thread, but what's the start time? :) (Actually, I probably can't make it next weekend, but probably up for some other time if you need any players.)

I agree with your second statement, but not the 1st and 3rd -- I've played in some very loose private games, where there were almost as many, if not more, green chips than red chips on the table at the end of the night. The games are 1/3 with a rock, but play more like a 5/10 or 10/20. We're talking games where people might sometimes straddle all-in for their last $150 or so (or more). Or every once in a while, straddles go 1/3/10/20/40/80+. In that game, it doesn't matter if they're red chips, green chips, black chips on the table. [Pro-tip: it's easier to make a decision to straddle all-in for $200 if you're only putting 8 chips into the pot instead of 40 chips.] But I will agree that it's often player dependent, so different games play differently.

In some of these games, starting stacks are basically 2 to 3 barrels of $5 chips to each player, then added green chips on top of that for the total buy-in. Rebuys were often done in all green chips, and if they ran out of green chips, black chips. I think that game had around 3-4 racks of $5s and 4-5 racks of $25s in their set.

Here's a story -- one of the guys who ran the game often played in it, and is a good player, but is also aggressive at times, and could make big bluffs, and could easily win a lot or ship a lot. His rebuys were often $1000, all in $25 chips. At one game, one of the other players was using a new card capper that was a tiny Lego figurine of a person, with a green thing in each hand -- I asked "what's that?" -- they said, "that's Joe after he gets stacked, coming back from the chip cabinet with a barrel of green chips in each hand." Lol. That had the table in stiches. (note: name changed for privacy)

I'll definitely keep you posted on future games. We're looking to play$2/$5 every 3 months or so depending on demand.

Just to be way out of the box...

Has anyone every thought to make the game $2.5/$5 and use a rack or 2 of snappers? I mean we are the guys that would have 2 racks of $2.50's...

I would think the reason casinos play 2/5 is lack of $2.5 chips
