I haven't done a set in close to 15 years. I think the how-to thread was on Chiptalk.

Just make sure you dye all the chips of a color at the same time. You'll never be able to mix the same color twice. Well, I didn't at least it's probably not impossible. :)
Too bad I already have 2 MTT sets and 2 STT sets so I don't have willpower to it once more.

That's the last play I saw the RIT dye process posted. I remember some of the members used to make some really nice yellow chips.
Yeah, I made a tourney set for a friend a long time ago. I believe the colors were yellow, orange, fuschia, and light blue. It turned out great.

Yes, color matching one batch to another is not something you want to attempt.

Holy cow I'm super tempted. Been wanting to put together a limit set...

How did the people get the lasering done? People just have etching machines at home?
There was a guy on chiptalk who offered the service for a while. But that was LONG ago

If you can pull off milling them, it's just a matter of contacting @Gear if you want to personalize them after dying.

Haha, the hard part for me is the milling. I can make my own labels.

But I have so many questions. I see in @Irish's picture that the pots are on a stove, so do the chips have to be dyed in hot water, and does that warp the chips? Do the colors stay on the chips or could they come off by being touched by wet hands or having a drink spilled on them?

The colors stay on the chips. It gets absorbed into the material. I didn't have any warping problems with my RIT dyed tourney set.
The material is SOOOO durable. But yet, they have a good feel, shuffle, and sound.

No warping, faux clays are virtually indestructible.

Back when I was a kid we use to do this too, but we dyed 414418 inserts because it was so easy.

Hot water, Rit Dye, batches of 100, good mixing

The longer the soak, the deeper the color change - it IS possible to color match batch to batch if you maintain time and temperature the same.
