Hello everyone. I am looking for some advice for a cash game set up. So I have about 6-10 people that like to play. I have some people that will buy in for $300, and some people that don’t gamble and only buy in for $20-$40, and they try their best:)

Do I have the right amount of chips to support? Here is my breakdown.

200 .25 chips
300 $1 chips
200 $5 chips (trying to get more)
550 $25 chips (I know way too many lol)
100-$100 chips

Also thinking about adddkng plaques for tourney play!
20-$500 plaques
10-$1000 plaques

Note: The chips I have are PNY chips:)

Thanks guys!

You have PLENTY of chips...

a barrel of $1's per player, a barrel of $5's, and the rest in $25's..

Yes more $5's might be nice but for a single table, two racks should be plenty....any more than that and you should be using $25 chips!

For a $1/2 NL game the minimum buy in should be at least $60 and preferably $100.
I know I would be annoyed if there were stacks at the start of the game at $40 or less.

More $5's for sure! Yes you can run the game with 200, it will play much better with 500 or more!

I asked because you listed quarters in your chip set.

Generally, 100 x BB is a minimum.

15 x $1
17 x $5
The rest of the stack (if more than 100 x BB) in quarters. (Might go up to 22 x $5 then the rest in $25 chips for stacks of deeper than 100 BBs -- but you can't do that for all 10 players at the table.)

Rebuys are in $25 chips.

Personally I think 60 BB is a fine minimum and I know card rooms that do 30 and 25 big blinds.

Yeah, if they were taking up a seat that would otherwise be filled by a real stack, I agree. But at a home game that might otherwise only have 6 or 7 players, by all means, fill the seats with tiny stacks.
OP, your game will play fine with the chips you have, but as others have said, a couple more racks of $5’s would be great if/when you look to add on.

For my 1/2 game, I do starting stacks in three barrels

$1 - 15
$5 - 17
$5 - 20

Buy-ins are 200-300, so for the people who want 300, they get four 25's, or five 20's depending on which I'm using. In the last half hour of the game, I start to chip up dollars and take them off the table, as well as chipping up the big stacks to make cashing out easier.

Caveat - I'm not actually PLAYING in the game, just dealing. So that makes it easier to deal with lots of chips and chipping up and such. Not sure I'd do things that way if I were playing.

I couldn't agree more! Thank you!

I would disagree. I'd rather play a short handed game of 5-7 players than a full table that has 4 seats sittting on $40.

Anytime a deep stack raises they have to now think they will have to call off to a 3 bet from a short stack or fold preflop instead. It kills action. It forces the game to play more like a tournament with most actions being decided preflop if I raise I will play for a stacks against a short stack.

Whereas if the game is 6 handed and all the stacks are $300 plus the game will play normally. Players can open with suited connectors or small pocket pairs and call a 3 bet because of implied odds, how a cash game is supposed to play.

So this is NOT my finished set. I have chips coming from detroitdad, another PCF Chipper, and Josh at Apache Poker Chips. I was able to work out a deal with the 1998/2005 CDI Chips for PNY chips! Ever since I worked that deal out, I needed to find more chips, especially the $100 secondaries. softchewy was kind and was able to let some of his go. Had to pay a premium however;)

So I have a lot more chips coming:) I can't wait to get them, and I will post a final pic once I have my set complete. A wise chipper advised me that I will never complete my set, only slow down for a bit and buy more, or maybe trade. Very true statement. I am slowing down for the moment, but I am always in the market for more $100 chips, and $500 chips:) I won't ask about the $1000 chips;)

I've always wondered what the difference in buy-ins between home games and casinos at $1/$2 would be. Wouldn't it be $300 max like in the casino (on the east coast, at least)?

I think so. What I plan on doing for 1/2 games, is give a player 76 chips. 56-$5 chips and 20-$1 chips to make their blinds. Then adjust from there. Add $25 chips for anything more.

I got more!

Here is my breakdown now:)

200-.25c
300-$1
585-$5
550-$25
120-$100

For players buying in for $300, I plan on giving them 56 $5 chips, and 20 $1 chips to make their blinds:)
