China Clay (8vs) smell (1 Viewer)

Smells like....a combination of dust and plastic and some chemicals. Not super stoked about it.

Haha, they have not seen play. I bought them with the intention of labeling them for a small OFC set. Just thinking that I don't want to spend a lot of time labeling, and playing them (while they are still smelling like piss) and after a while end up with a set of chips still smelling like piss, just a bit less.

Maybe CCs are not for me. I probably care more about it than many others. Wish I didn't though, as they feel and look really nice, especially considering the price.
mmmmmm

Why do yours smell like piss? What did you do???

We don't have that problem.

I washed all my 8Vs before I labeled them, and that helped a bit. If I hold them up to my nose I can still smell them, but with normal handling it doesn't bother me. I have a barrel on my desk at work for shuffling, and I don't notice the smell on those at all anymore.

Where are those mfers for real? I’m gonna have to bite the bullet and quite overpay eventually, or just buy a whole custom set.
Yeah, the reds sold out quickly. I seriously regret not getting in on the blowout sale early and grabbing some.

I'm sure it's just me being a bit too picky, but there's definitely a wierd smell there. Like plasticy, dusty.

If you're not bothered by the smell they are honestly an amazing custom option.

It's not just you. Many people are put off by the smell.

Bizarre. Prior to finding this forum I bought a set of CC Pharaoh’s. They had the typical stench to begin but disapated after use and time.

The original Pharaoh’s China clays? The smell probably disappeared because the chips crumbled into fancy dust.

A combination of pre-washing with a white vinegar solution, light oiling with mineral oil, open-air storage, and frequent usage will have a significant -- and cumulative -- effect on the smell often associated with china clay chips, reducing the stench to acceptable levels.

But it never completely goes away.

The stench will not go away. I owned a set of these CC Pharaoh's for 8 years and it smelled the same since Day 1. It didn't really bother me nor my group. I did try everything from airing them out, charcoal deodorizers, baking soda, to washing, etc. The smell is built into the chip's composition, so the more you rub and scrub, it just reveals a fresh layer of the chip's chemicals and scent for you to enjoy.

I have heard of this "smell" from reading other posts, but I honestly had no idea what people were talking about because I didn't notice a smell from my brand new set of Royals. So I put them directly under my nose. They definitely have a smell. Nothing offensive, but it's there.

However, considering I don't make a habit of putting my chips within 2 inches of my nose, I think I'll be fine. I don't notice any trace of a smell if I'm just stacking, sorting, racking, handling or shuffling the chips. Maybe certain CCs are much worse than others?

My son smells all my Paulsons religiously! :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

What's funny is, ALL my CCs are on the bottom row of my chip shelf and he has NO INTEREST in CCs.

I also have noticed the smell. I have a full cash set of Milanos that all smell the smell. I also have a tourney set of Desert Palms, and they too have the smell. It's certainly off-putting and I hope I never have to use them for this reason.

My sample sets of Majestics and Dunes CCs all have the same distinct odor as well. I recently received an order of Royals and they smell too, although seemingly not as pungent. I have to really put my nose to the chip to get a hit of that nasty smell. Smells like a dirty sock that got bagged for a week. Just not enticing at all.

I've tried the Dawn and scrub routine. I also left a rack in my cold garage for a week to see and it seemed to help for a day, but the smell came back.

As @grantc54 says, it's a base smell coming from the composition of the chip I think. It has to be. I bought CCs to use if ever have to get out of chipping but want to continue hosting poker.

I think there is no way to remove an odor that is injected in through the various processes used to make the chip.

As someone new to poker chips in general, how much do CCs actually smell? Been thinking about investing in some Milanos. Some people dont seem to mind but some others seem to hate it so much they cant even use the chips? Can someone compare the intensity of smell to something else?
