Best deck of plastics (1 Viewer)

IMO you can’t go wrong with Modiano Platinum cards. They are some outstanding cards.
I had a set. Lasted 3 years of intensive use. Even as they a bit thicker than KEMs they do not become "gummy" even after a year of use that makes them easier to shuffle. They very good. They could produce them in bridge size.

Modiano cards may be okay (too thick for my tastes), but the company itself is a bunch of thieving assholes who will never get a single dime out of my pockets. Fuck those guys and anybody who supports them.

I have no opinion on that but heard what happened with previous Desjgb batch. I have a bit sentiment towards Modiano as they were my first plastics. Despite obvious flaws were big improvement over paper decks I used to play.

Some strong opinions on brands! One of thing of note, many of these top brands do offer multiple types of plastic cards, so for instance Cartamundi or Modianio or Dal Negro, etc., have cards that vary in attributes and price - those labeled "acetate" are often higher priced and it seems are considered premium.

I'm not 100% in the acetate camp, as I've found some non-acetate cards that have desirable characteristics and perform quite well.

Brought out my poker sized standard index decks tonight. I have other decks that are either jumbo index or bridge size, but this combo of poker size/standard index is what I have most of, and what I prefer.

From left to right: Bicycle Prestige, Gemaco Superflex, Desjgn Classic Flourish, Copag 1546, Da Vinci Persiano... probably most notable absentee is Kem Arrows, which I only own in bridge size (at least for now).

My conclusion: None of these cards are perfect, and they are all “mostly good.” It all comes down to personal preference on flexibility, font, color, back design, etc..

For example, while I quite like the feel of the DaVinci’s, I hate the back design and i really hate the font and color used on the faces.

Copags tend to catch some flak on here. I happen to really like them. The feel, the back design, and I LOVE the font they use on their numbers and letters. But if we’re being picky, they do tend to slide, and the red cards are too “bright.” I much prefer a deep dark red like you see on the Gemaco and Desjgn (2nd and 3rd from left, respectively, in photo below):

For my money, if you forced me to rank these 5 cards overall, taking all factors into account (feel, back design, pips, colors, etc...), it would probably look like this:

1. Desjgn
2. Gemaco
2A. Copag
4. Bicycle
5. Da Vinci

Just my opinion. Was fun to take these out and toss them around for a few minutes.

I agree that personal preference plays a big part for all of us regarding cards. Designs, colors, fonts, thickness etc. The three cards I have the most experience with and have owned several set ups of each are:

Modiano Platinums
Copag 1546
Kem Arrows

Having owned several set ups of each the “flaws” that I noticed in these three brands are:

I’ve had the backs of Modiano Platinum cards show slight signs of smearing or fading to where once noticed that specific card can now be identified rendering that deck unusable.

With Copags 1546 I’ve had cards tear near the suit in a top corner of the card. The tear looked as if it was done on purpose; however, due to the tear being in the exact same place of the card on different cards within the deck and on cards in different set ups I tend to believe it’s a manufacturing issue.

Lastly with Kem Arrows they are atrocious when it comes to warping. I’ve taken great care to prevent this from happening and every deck I’ve had has warped. Again, I believe this is a manufacturing issue.

Despite the flaws, as I’ve previously stated, my favorite are the Modiano Platinums. I myself have had nothing but pleasant dealings with the company. I purchase all my Modianos from the Modiano website directly. Now I’m not saying they haven’t done others wrong, I’m just saying my dealings have all been positive.

After reading this post, I’m really looking forward to trying the Design cards (I know I spelled it wrong, my apologies). Members seem to enjoy them and I really like supporting our site vendors. Well hope my opinions and experiences will help another member in narrowing down their decision into which cards to buy.

Consider yourself lucky, since they have clearly established themselves as unwilling to stand behind their product when flawed, refusing to take ANY action on cards delivered with printing errors (rendering them unuseable), and treating large order customers like dog shit.

I cannot in good faith recommend such a company or their products, regardless of my personal experience.

I never had any Desjgn so I am not taking tchem into consideration

1. Modiano Platinium Jumbo
2. Kem Casino Circle
3. Dal Negro Liberty
4. KEM Pantheon, jumbo index, bridge size
5. Modiano Poker, despite all the bitter comments they pretty good per dolar spent

some references

Desjgn never had any, so I can not comment on them, hovewer I think that apart from realy nice design they are as good as company printing them
Copaq to thin and sliperry for my taste, plus I dont pips font and face cards design, they ugly to me, as soon they catch some moisture they loose ink as crazy
Gemaco propobly ugliest plastic cards I have ever own, darkest red ink I ever seen causing some confusion on the table, for some reason they very fast cought some dents
Piatnik they plastic cards are disaster, ugly, stiff, quite shame as they OPTI line cards are prittiest I have ever seen

I always was a Kem guy but they are curling up and it’s angering me. I tried out the Faded Spade 2.0, I kinda like them, the players liked them, very easy to read, they are tanks and do not get scratched or bent.

Just got some Desjgn for Christmas and they haven’t seen the felt outside of a few games of cribbage. Everyone loved them, me included. The feel is good, they’re not too slick, just the right amount of thickness, and I think I’m going to be a Desjgn guy from here.

I've been using Kem for under a year. They're nice; a step up from the air-cushioned crap of yesteryear. But I was blown away by the Bullets. I love the design and they shuffle super nice!!! Been through about 3 gaming sessions and haven't found any marks on them yet.

Biggest con for the bullets is that they only come in 2 colors. I've cleaned a small spill off of them with success, but nothing substantial. If people keep spilling beer on the same color repeatedly, I might be left with only a single color of decks (which is bad) ... unless you consider 6 Aces good :)

Love the Bullets (play with 'em at the Hitching Post), but wish they made a bridge-size card.

Yeah I am gonna get a set of them next. I've read they are hands down the best deck of plastics. $15/deck .. $30/set is steep for cards but then again thats 2 hours of beers at the bar, and the cards last way longer lmao

Really nice design (love the bullets). The artwork is really nice for a jumbo card which usually had much smaller KQJ. And, of course, no box around the spade on the ace...
I'm loving those Royal .50 chips though haha

Yeah I have the Desjgn 4 color bridge set. I was on the fence about liking the font or not before i played with them. After using them for a game, I totally love the font. Its unique from all the others and gives it a fancy look. Probably one of the most unique decks ive seen. Also love the 4 color deck... kind of a novelty but really helps for newbies. Teaching my fiancee hold'em and the 4 color deck really helps with distinguishing a flush.

For me, at the moment, it goes:

1. Desjgn Grand Victorian (2019)
2. Dal Negro Virgolone (2019)
3. Fournier 2800
4. Piatnik 1361
5. Bullets 2 pip jumbo index
6. ModiaNO Platinum Acetate
7. Bicycle Prestige Duraflex

8. Everything else

JMC, this is an overall rating, correct? Not just feel?

Yes. Though the top two on my list have the best feel (to me), but it's all subjective. I like a thicker, textured card stock, and the desjgn and Dal Negro cards have that in spades.

Will come out with my list when I get my Desjgns. I don't have much hope in sourcing Piatniks though. All I've been able to find are paper variants.

I can't get the Bullets in Canada (Amazon won't ship them to Canada ) or Piatniks. Want to try them, though.

I came home to these in the mail today, and I’m liking them quite a bit so far, especially given the price.
