There's too many chip sluts on this site ! (1 Viewer)

I appreciate the sluts because they circulate chips. It would be a terrible hobby if everyone bought and held forever. You’d probably have some wacko that collected over 100,000 chips and some of them would be very rare and desirable. Then you’d have to wait for that person to die or become mentally incapacitated so that their executor or someone with power of attorney but without emotional attachment to the chips can sell them here, assuming they know of us. If they don’t know of Pcf, the chips will end up on eBay for @navels to snare or perhaps in an obscure estate sale where the chips will be further lost to antiquity.

TLDR: Thank God for Sluts.

That wacko is @pltrgyst lol!

I’m with many of the others that can’t afford to keep all the sets I’ve had over the years, at this point I have to sell something if I’m gonna buy something.

In hindsight I wish I would have kept a lot more of the sets I purchased back in the day when I was still single. It would be an awesome collection! Oh well, such is the life of a cash broke chipper:)

You’ve had some EPIC sets my friend. I’ve seen your list. It is still cool to enjoy the chips, no matter how transient they are. I’ve definitely enjoyed everything I’ve bought (and subsequently sold). I’m still buying shi* now but more selectively. (@navels dibs on your Palms)

I challenge the premise in the thread title. Are there, in fact, TOO MANY chip sluts on this site? Or does the proliferation of such creatures ensure that the healthy population of collectible chips remain in constant circulation and therefore allow for predictable market valuation? Discuss.

No reason you can't be both. I'm a chip slut with several long-term commitments on the side.
I am definitely a chip slut. I'm new though and I feel my own tastes cannot be properly distinguished until I've sampled and held what it is that I want.

I have a couple sets already that have been with me from the start. I don't see myself letting go of them.

In order for a person with my budget, income level, and committments to my family, to get more chips, I must always have expendable chips that must be sold to pave the way for more.

It's not something I wanted to become, but this hobby is killer expensive and I can see as long as I will be in this, I will have to be a slut.

I’m fine with people buying and then selling, gives me more chances at chips I want. :) But the whole “really hate to sell these buuuuuut **insert two or three paragraphs of the most unreal sob story about how the cat needs a new furnace because they were hit on a bike while getting sick on the way to getting laid off from their job that needs a surgery that.....**” is pretty astounding every time somebody wants to sell chips - just sell the chips. ;) Nobody is keeping track of how long you’ve had them.

I buy and trade a fair number of chips here, but they are all for actual in-game use.

When I sell chips, it’s usually because I overbought, made a mistake or changed my mind. Once in a while, it’s because I had to buy a larger lot to get the necessary chips, then I sell the remainder.

When I liquidate and buy a different set, it’s because I’m aiming to upgrade my home game to a new/better level.

Generally, I try to sell here at cost or below... unless I got an insane deal, so that I can give the community a decent price while still taking a modest profit. I use eBay for the very occasional sales where I think a higher price is warranted, though usually only after posting the sale here at a more reasonable level.

Generally I don’t see chipping as a money-losing proposition even when selling below cost, to the extent that I had the use of them for the difference of the price. If I were to sell a set I bought for $3,500 at $3,000, it would be because I enjoyed at least $500 worth of entertainment value from it over a couple of years. (Note: This may make me the fish at the chipping table.)

I’d say I only ever have made one real buying mistake, but that was for my initial non-dice set, and the relative cost was way lower than my others. So, not such a big mistake.
