Just Curious as to the Why Behind Purchasing via PM (1 Viewer)

I've not been on here seriously in a few years now and I'm really out of the loop.
I hastily posted that original for sale without little sense of a system in place (very overwhelming) . And truly I did not really know the market value of much I was offering since I've been away from here so long.

I was advised an auction style offering was my best route by a vet on here.

I wish I did the auctions from the get go.
Sorry for any inconvenience from the lack of information (heck I made it 2 weeks for the auctions until I realized that's not really the game).
And this 'dibs' thing is pretty much news to me.

Chris

Welcome Back. :) One big happy family.

Please excuse the Chippers, they are loco.

Last follow up. I have people reaching out to ask what this is in regards to so they can look at it and avoid if necessary. Since it’s been settled, it’s @spikeithard original lot for sale to gather offers. No big deal honestly, per him “I am looking to maximize my money like most do”. No hard feelings, best of luck to seller and buyers.

Food for thought, when I was MIA for a minute, I had multiple PCFers go to bat for me. And when I returned, I proved every single one them right, making good. Anyone here hear a pin drop? Nah? Cool. Maybe the French wine got me feeling good, but the community that feels loved loves you.

Can we get this closed by a mod? Feels like I’m on a soliloqui and just answering PMs at this point. Peace!

Mainly because I'm not following this thread. I've had a ton of interactions with @spikeithard in the past and every single one of them was fantastic.

Thanks.
I dropped the ball on this one a bit. .. I guess a bit rusty

I have always had honour in my dealings on here in the past even including a sample set give away once IIRC.
I hope everyone bidding gets what they want at a fair price and even the odd great deal on one

It's hard to trust you with Mr Burns laughing in the corner ... Maggie shot him for God's sake.

Kidding. Welcome back.

I’ve dropped the ball chipper knowledge wise before too. I’ve made offers that were intentionally low, and sold happily at that price. I’ve also made for sale offers that were unintentionally low, and when someone said yes and I realized my mistake, I said congrats, great deal.

We can say ha loco chippers, but I’m wondering what all of you say when someone holds an auction, doesn’t post a minimum, and then withholds sale because it doesn’t meet their new criteria? They would be crucified. That same thing being done privately isn’t any better.

It’s all good, excited when I get to the point of the rest here where I can almost 100% avoid he public sales aspect of this site, and just enjoy the fun aspects.

I think what he did actually violates the guideline below. But I guess there’s no remedy.

  • No "Interest Only - Not For Sale Yet" type ads in the classifieds.
I would agree except there is also this in there

Your ad should contain all of the details here. (ex: price, photos, condition, shipping, payment info, etc.) "Make Offer by private convo/message" is acceptable.

I know his post didn't detail this but it does seem to elude to the possibility of posting classifieds without a price and accepting offers.

I remembered seeing this because I know personally I hate seeing "make offer" instead of a price. I can't sell your item and buy it too. If you don't know what you want or what your stuff is worth then research or take a shot on the high end and lower as needed. I honestly think there should be restrictions against classifieds ads without prices. Most swap sites that operate similarly require that.

I agree completely with you and with @BGinGA. I wonder if prohibiting “make offer” sales on PCF has been seriously considered or discussd.

I agree with all three of you. I generally refrain from throwing my hat in the ring because I don’t have all the knowledge concerning pricing and what they’re looking for.

My question: can we or do we need to add something for acting in good faith? The fact that everyone here is cool with a seller (new, old, or in between) naming his price privately and then going back and saying nope I can make more $ now based on a second message or offer amazes me.

Now just to play devils advocate. I typically always put "Or Best Offer" (OBO) on any sale post I make, typically that means on the lower end but it is also very possible to get a higher offer if there is say large interest over an item.

You need to chill just a little bit calling out what you deem questionable behaviour. You weren’t MIA for a minute, you left people hanging for at least a month. This is not an attack on you, but maybe just hang back a little bit instead of throwing stones. Just sell your stuff for what it’s worth instead of giving deals and then growing bitter when others don’t take the white knight route.

Sell what you want, how you want.

I think acting in good faith is presumed. It’s just a very hard standard to enforce, as it’s subjective. Particularly when deals are done through PMs.

Sell what you want, how you want.
My response regarding what I did was to say who cares if someone provides a freebie, not to tout my response. I’m bitter because I overreacted to my own issue and he’s not giving out tons of chips? Wrong, I’m pissed because I’m tired of being on the wrong end of unscrupulous actions. I don’t expect shit, I just expect someone to follow their word.

But yes I do agree, sell and buy what and how you want. I forgot this is a community first in all aspects outside of the sales forum. Since we’re poker players, by all means play the angles there.

My take on all this:

Chris was probably bombed with PMs, multiple offers, dibs requests in the original thread (which don't mean anything in a 'make offer' thread) and didn't know quite how to deal with all the unexpected interest. Things have changed a lot around here since he was a regular poster/participant.

At that point, whatever he did was going to displease somebody, so he simply decided to give everybody an equal chance at what they wanted by putting everything up for auction.

No harm, no foul. Everything is now transparent, and bid if you want something.

The cool part is, every time I get fu**ed or someone irritates me, I just put up more free stuff! Sad we think generosity or follow through is considered "white knight" these days.

Totally agree. Didn't mean for it to get as far before he responded, then the eventual response didn't help. Probably just rusty, and I know by now I should stay away from those type of sales posts at this point (not a shot at the sale or seller, those things just tend to not go over well). I appreciate your sentiments here.
