You'd be surprised. One of my friends that comes to my games all the time tries to buy a lot of pots early in the hand after the flop when he's holding nothing but a straight or flush draw. Even in early position he more often than not bets.
Thing is a lot of the other players are so nitty that he gets away with it. If someone has top pair on a relatively dry board but there's two of the same suit and the other player has two of the same suit, the nits bet half pot or less, so its still good value for a flush draw to stay in. When I play against this player, I usually go in hard after him if he's in early position and I have something. He'll fold most of the time if I re-raise him
Anyway, regarding the hand in question, if Irish slow played his boat, I could see the value in the other player staying in. Even if they got their straight, irish had them dead to rights, and it would have been a disaster.

I get leading or calling when he flopped an OESD. I get leading or calling when a Q hit the turn. But when another Q hits the river, and he holds an unimproved OESD, he's not calling down any hand, right?! Even if he thinks @Irish is bluffing...he has 8-high. He probably shouldn't be leading either with a run-out like that, but he's definitely not calling down.
It looks like the dealer button is in front of @Irish's full house, so the only sane assumption is that he took a stab at it, figuring running queens didn't improve @Irish's hand. If it was checked to @Irish and he bet the river, 8-high has to fold.

Also won the end-of-the-year special tournament yesterday, featuring the top eight players in points, earning me $170 (yes, I know, dice chips).
