So I might be hooked.... (2 Viewers)

I checked out a bunch of ceramics thanks to @Forty4 and his Beginners Sample Pack, and didn't like the feel of them. Similarly, the over-sized label on the Elite's was a bit too slippery for my tastes. The idea with the CC's is that even when I upgrade to a CPC or Paulson Tourney set, I'll likely still keep the CCs for times when I need to bring chips to a friends game. This way the pricey chips can always stay safe at home.

That and I really don't want to wait too long on picking up the Tournament set (Heck, I wish I had one for the Tourney I am hosting this Friday) and don't feel like impulse buying another thousand paulson's this week -- that might get me thrown into the dog house ;):nailbite:

If you are going to buy cc then I recommend at least get them used. Have you ever owned cc chips? Most of them stink and take about a month or so for the smell to dissipate. Secondly, in order to look good the chips need to be cleaned and then oiled. It is a pretty time consuming process.

Some people like cc chips so just giving you my 2c. They are not something I would plan to own again and I am not just saying you need to spend more money. Something like the Burro hybrids are awesome.

I can’t wait to see what your next Paulson set looks like. :)

What are you thinking about for your second set?

In the meant time you might as well start experimenting with some TRK's and paulsons?
Now you need a tourney set.

Buncha fucking enablers... All of you! And you've been talking to @Trihonda? You should just light your wallet on fire.

In all seriousness, you won't outgrow those Paulsons. That's not to say you won't upgrade, but those are a great chip. You made the right choice, for sure.

Now, lemme give you my 2¢ about tournament chips... In my experience (YMMV), cash game players will appreciate and respect your chips more. Treat them to clay. Tournament players are a mixed bunch... They can be harsher on your chips. They get Bud Jones, Abiattis, RT Plastics or Matsuis.

Enjoy the ride, sir!

I swear my wife's birthday falls at the most inopportune time every freaking year. Otherwise I would be out there (and offering up my majestic's set if it was big enough for your tournament
No worries... I'll drop you a pm when we schedule our next poker night.

That was my thinking on the CC's should be fairly durable, I can get the breakdown I need fairly easily; and they are "reasonably" priced. Even if they are a depreciating asset.

The issue is finding a set I like at a reasonable price, with the right chip denom breakdown.

So far only found one contender and that one fell through. Still looking though

As I well know. Fair point, sir.

Honestly, I think it will be easier with a tourney set.

Limit set is usually 1000 or more of a single denomination...often $1 or $2.
My set is 1000 $1 chips and a rack of $10s for when we get all the white on the table.

1000 of one color on the table... not sure how I feel about that. Would almost prefer to just call all chips $1 regardless of color or denom

Limit poker is a very different animal, more old school... many people dont like it, I learned playing with Older Jockeys at a Baltimore card club, different pace of game, still enjoyable with the right crowd and with a 1/2 limit game its a little bit harder to break the bank!!

Historically, my group has done a variation on limit $0.25 blinds $2.50 limit. I have been slowly working them towards more common formats (trying $0.25/$0.50 pot limit this Friday )

I usually feel like I’m fairly knowledgeable about chips when I talk to my poker friends about them. Then I come here and find a wealth of knowledge and a fervor that I can’t hope to match lol. Maybe someday I can get on that level.

Two weeks ago, I introduced myself to this community and was thinking of upgrading my set to some CC's or maybe ceramics.. when asked about my current setup I posted this:

To which @Jeevansluck almost prophetically responded with:

So, where do I find myself just two weeks later? Well with a set of Paulson's sitting on my table:wow:

I have to give special thanks to @Trihonda and @aaronroch for spending a lot of time with me answering countless questions and helping to begin my understand the hobby. Also, a thank you to @Bosco24 for popping my cherry and setting me up with my first set.

And now for the obligatory chip pr0n.View attachment 342902View attachment 342903
Very nice set!! Those are some of my favorite $1s.

Addiction is a muti-step process, so you're semi-safe for now. Next thing you know, somebody will be whispering, "I have TRKs little boy..." :ROFLMAO: :D Then you'll be hooked.

I think that may have been what happened to @Ben8257 lol!

Of course, what do I do..... I go look up what TRKs are, read up on the history and now I want to get my hands on a few to check them out.

Don’t do it. Allow yourself some time to enjoy your Paulsons first before you get addicted to TRKs.

Edit: also don’t get “just one TRK to see what the fuss is about” - that’s how all addictions begin.

Get the solid hot stamp home game chips. That will save you a ton of money...LOL.

JUST KIDDING. I'm not a fan of the solid hot stamp home game chips. They are unleaded and too light. Fair warning. You will be doing the equivalent of heroin once you move to "leaded" TRKs. Your life will be spent chasing the dragon. (:
