Two weeks ago, I introduced myself to this community and was thinking of upgrading my set to some CC's or maybe ceramics.. when asked about my current setup I posted this:
As for setup I am just using the 14g Plastics so far, but I am looking to upgrade to a set of ceramics or china clays (not quite ready to invest in Paulson's yet).
To which @Jeevansluck almost prophetically responded with:
Hahahahaahahahaha:ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

The fact you use the word "yet" at the end of a statement like that...means you are already stuck with a foot in the top of a real deep rabbit hole...and I'm certain you are going to fall in.

good luck with not getting Paulsons yet...
So, where do I find myself just two weeks later? Well with a set of Paulson's sitting on my table:wow:

I have to give special thanks to @Trihonda and @aaronroch for spending a lot of time with me answering countless questions and helping to begin my understand the hobby. Also, a thank you to @Bosco24 for popping my cherry and setting me up with my first set.

And now for the obligatory chip pr0n.

Congrats on the first set! Pretty killer to have such a sweet set so early into chipping . Enjoy the roller coaster ride this hobby provides lol.

15 days from asking about china clays to posting pr0n of his first set of Paulsons. :wow:

That HAS to be some kind of record. I mean, that includes shipping time and everything!
Now my issue is that what would have been a major upgrade doing china clays for my Tournament set is going to feel a bit meh.

Next up is figuring out CPC's I already have my Fiancée having fun with the custom chip tool.. thankfully she hasn't seen the pricing information yet though :nailbite:

Haha congrats! Looking great. I am in a similar boat but trying to fill out a Jack's set is taking too long!

Very smart skipping the cheap plastics - you can only give them away and even then no-one wants them. Ceramics and china clays are better but you'll lose at least 50% on resale.

What you've done is come in with an open mind and actually listened to the forum advice. I wish I had done the same!

I’ve got a shiny American nickel that says one of your players complains that the Paulsons are not as heavy as your slugged 14g plastic chips.

Only thing I’m not sure about is what’s the over/under for how many times you smack him. I’m going with “over 3”, double or nothing on the nickel.

Congrats on the purchase.

What are you thinking about for your second set?
I need to get a Tournament set next. For that I was just going to grab a set of Majestic's when they come back in stock. After that I am thinking of doing a set of Custom chips from CPC. But that is likely still quite a ways off as I am still figuring out what I like in terms of mold, spots, colors, etc -- as well as needing a 'Name' for my 'poker room' with an accompanying design.

I love it. That's the way to do it. In the meant time you might as well start experimenting with some TRK's and paulsons? Can't hurt right lol.

I have five or six cash sets. Yet, I'm always looking, planning, contemplating buying more. The clay disc addiction is real.

I already got that out of my family (both fiancée and my 10 year old son). She likes the weight of the 14g and he liked the shiny sticker on the plastics.

Funny enough, she didn't understand why I would want chips from a Casino; but she completely thought it would be worth it to get a custom chip made for our place. Thankfully, she only played with the custom chip tool at CPC and didn't look at the pricing sheet.

Beautiful chips! Awesome story and that second picture is epic!!! Water front chip life!!

I am thinking of Lakeview Poker Room for the name, as if the weather is nice we are typically playing on the patio enjoying a cigar or two with our game.

Still need to work out the graphic though

This sounds very similar to the 'I bought it on sale and saved us money' logic.. but in this case I'll go with it
@karsus, it may sound illogical to you now, but as @Highli99 and @Darson have stated, this expensive purchase of your first Paulson set saved you the almost certain monetary loss of reselling other chips for 30 to 50 percent of your original cost. Assuming you will eventually find something nicer to upgrade to, these Paulsons should hold onto most of their value. So, although your cash outlay is quite a bit higher, your net worth has not decreased as a result of this purchase. The same cannot be said for most other chips. #rentingpaulsonchipsisthebest

Feeling a bit jealous at the moment!! Take some live stack pictures for the live stack thread! Amazing view, awesome chips, hopefully a quality cigar to break in the chips! Job well done!!

This was the same advice I got from @Trihonda and why I decided to pull the trigger on the Paulson's #rentingpaulsonchips

This is definitely not the norm, but I had a 600-pc Showdown set that I bought for $135. I listed them on FB Marketplace, and found some local guys with a game that, on a whim, thought they'd like to upgrade from their dice chips. Traded a compound bow for them, that I turned around and sold in a couple days for $125. I had just joined PCF, and after a few weeks of reading opinions on sluggers, I felt like that deal was almost like scoring a truckload mint leaded THC's! :ROFLMAO:

Just my 2c but don't waste time/money with buying majestics or any cc for that matter. Just go straight to ceramics or Sunfly hybrids or if you want paulsons.

Ceramics and Hybrids are great in terms of durability, even better than paulsons.

Of course CPC or the Apache Elite type stuff is also good.

I'm starting to think I need to make a trip out to Madison to pick some brains on Paulson's and stuff (and you know, maybe play poker)

I checked out a bunch of ceramics thanks to @Forty4 and his Beginners Sample Pack, and didn't like the feel of them. Similarly, the over-sized label on the Elite's was a bit too slippery for my tastes. The idea with the CC's is that even when I upgrade to a CPC or Paulson Tourney set, I'll likely still keep the CCs for times when I need to bring chips to a friends game. This way the pricey chips can always stay safe at home.

That and I really don't want to wait too long on picking up the Tournament set (Heck, I wish I had one for the Tourney I am hosting this Friday) and don't feel like impulse buying another thousand paulson's this week -- that might get me thrown into the dog house ;):nailbite:
