I received a private message from grandgnu concerning his attendance at my home games and at the Florida meet-up. He does not want his presence to adversely impact other PCF members willingness to attend either of these events and offered to sit out. He left the decision up to me. I do not like to exclude people, but I also don't want a lot of drama and controversy surrounding what is supposed to be a fun event. I received his OK to post this thread.

I would like to know if his attending would keep you from attending either my monthly home game or the Florida meet-up.

Fuck no....................I'd play in a heartbeat.

Just because I might not agree with some of his postings doesn't make him a bad dude. As long as he isn't an ass at the table (that goes for anyone) then I'm game for playing with them no matter what our differences might be.

Still only 93.76% likely to make it to the meet-up Mark ;) I hope to get to 100% soon!

I for one have no problem whatsoever having Gnu present...

You know you suck at poker real bad if everyone hates you but wants you in the game. :D

"But I'll take it to play poker with you" (note video has language that is NSFW)

I don't mind. I plan on playing either way.

I'm about a 94.82% on attending.
That's not completely accurate of course. it has a
margin of error of 7.684391%, give or take.

It would 100% negatively impact my decision to attend, and gnu is not welcome at any meat-up I host.

I'm at exactly 47.68725% to attend the meatup (I stoved it; it must be right) and have no problem playing with Gnu. So help me, I still kind of like the little bugger, sorta. And think of the photo ops that would be missed! ;)

Are you planning on attending the Florida meet-up ?

I guess what I am trying to get at is if people that actually planned on attending would not attend, not just your general opinion of grandgnu. If a greater number of likely attendees would not attend, that would overrule his attendance.

Pretty unlikely we will be able to make it down, Mark -- but as always, I would defer to and trust your judgement on the list of attendees.

Life is too short to place much focus on artificial drama. Drink, play poker, have fun.... end of story.

No, I'm not attending what I'm sure will be a positive and fun event. My perspective was as a potential attendee and that's one factor among others.

Sorry to hear you won't be able to make it.

Mark, may I offer my .02 as a totally neutral non attending (most likely) observer? You may want to ask people who have an issue with Gnu to PM you. They may not be comfortable openly stating it even if they are thinking it.

That's a good idea, although many people seem pretty open to expressing their opinions. ;)

No issue here, I get along with everyone.

Having said that I'm positive when you asked if he minded you creating this thread it resulted in a literal fist-pump insta-call, a scream of AHOOGA, and quite a bit of dancing around ;)

Thanks Chris, although I'm sorry to hear you won't be attending too.

I am sure Gnu will be on his best behavior, if not just to gain support in his notion that the Mean Girls carry a grudge against him. But the fact that this thread exists should be a red flag. I suggest picking up a Ball Gag off Amazon, just to be safe. Free Shipping!

I won't be attending, and it has nothing to do with Gnu. I am sure it will be an awesome time, as most meet ups are.

at least 75% of my play is in casinos, so i'm pretty accustomed to unhinged, semi-veiled bigoted rants and generally irritating behavior and am able to either tune it out or poke the troll and enjoy my time at the tables. and this is in an environment where i enjoy the company of less than half of even the non-insane people at the table. at a PCF/CT event where i enjoy spending time with 99% of the people, the 1% would never keep me from attending.

however, i have a feeling my tolerance for bullshit at a poker table is higher than most. like scott, i would consider it a red flag that this has to be discussed at all.

Mark,

I'm unable to attend. Gnu's presence has no influence on whether I attend.

Would love to be there, I'm sure it'll be great.

Hope you have a great turnout!

I'm planning to attend no matter who is there. If somebody offends me so much that I don't want to play at the same table, I'm sure I'll be able to find another seat. I think that I'm a patient and tolerant person, but if something is flung in my direction, I do have a tendency to fling it right back.

It's been my experience that some people are completely different in person than they are online. I've never met the gnu and am not in a position to comment on his behavior in real life. It does make me a bit uncomfortable that this thread even exists.

Abby, fwiw I've always found you to be a class act online and I don't foresee any issues between us in person either. Thank you for chiming in. As stated, I pm'd Mark because I saw things heating up here and didn't want my presence at his upcoming meat-up, or regularly held games, to be a reason for large numbers of chippers to avoid it.

I'm actually really surprised by the responses thus far, I figured this thread would've gone much differently.

PM sent.

Mark,

Highly unlikely I can make it as I don't like taking time off and not being in school with my students. However, his presence would not impact me coming at all. I can get along with just about anyone and can tolerate 99.999% of people for a few days and gnu doesn't seem like the 0.001% that I couldn't stand.

Personally I'm sadden that this thread exists.

I'm not planning on attending, but I think it will be interesting to read the trip reports after the event should he go.

People actually left the BBotB because of Gnu's behavior. People. Plural. That's what got him banned up here, and what got the rest of the regs who were at the game labeled as Mean Girls.

I was hopeful for a Gnu growth opportunity for a little while. We even debated allowing his readmittance to the BBotB with the MA/NH PCFers this year, but his latest antics on the forum have me concerned. If I were able to make it to FL this year, I think he would be a deal breaker for me,

I'm unlikely to make it (I'd say 20% chance) but Gnu's attendance or lack thereof has no bearing on my likeliness to attend.

I have had to 86 two people in just 5 years of hosting and that was because one was a total weirdo odd ball that no one felt comfortable around all night and the other guy had beef with a few of my regs for dumb reasons (Napoleon complexish). If I were to attend a game knowing the gnu was there I would be fine with it of course. I always give people the benefit of the doubt. I am not perfect myself! Someones actions on a forum board do not necessarily reflect the actions they may make in person.

I hope this all gets resolved in a mature way and people can make peace if possible.

I am offering no opinion what so ever because A. unfortunately there is zero chance I'm attending and B. I have absolutely no idea what the back story is (other than the generic comments about a meet-up gone wrong that have been made recently) but can I just say something real quick..?

I'm relatively new to this forum, but to forums in general I have been around since 1997. I've always thought it was the coolest thing in the world to be able to talk to people from all over the world about whatever and have been/still am a member of MANY different forums. I've seen more than a few people be vilified on boards for behavior at "real life get togethers" or their posting history that is VERY deserved (three summers ago at a gun/shooting forum get together a dude got drunk and started bump firing his AR into the air at midnight, I have never been more nervous and sure SOMEBODY was getting shot than I was at that point), and Gnu may very well deserve what he is getting (again, I have no clue)...but from an outsiders perspective it sure seems like Gnu has been getting massively trashed and is doing his best not to retaliate (either because he's "grown up" or knows it won't do any good, maybe both?) lately. '

Like I say, I know zero about the actual situation (and allegations of racism are concerning to me for sure), and these things don't usually stem form nothing, but is it possible that things he is being said to have posted as "trolling" are only looked at that way because of who he is? Take for instance the shooting thread he posted. Now you can say many things about how distasteful and what bad judgment was used when he posted/linked the video (like I said in that thread, I didn't watch it and I personally wouldn't post it), but I also responded to him in the thread and I don't think I would have if I considered him trolling. He's being blamed for "trolling" when I think he just used some bad judgement about whether to post the video or not, this is a discussion board and he brought up a topic for discussion that was relevant because it had just happened...

Again, not taking ANYBODY'S side, I have no right to and no idea who is "right" or "wrong", but when personal insults are being used in threads regarding everything from his judgement to his height it starts to feel like a witch hunt from the outside. I feel like I have to keep saying it because I don't want to sound like I'm defending somebody if they don't deserve to be defended, but to me it feels like these last few days have been a "pile on" mentality that is out of the ordinary for how this board usually responds to people.

Who knows though, maybe because I haven't seen it happen to a bunch of other people that should tell me there is more to the story here.
