Help with designing first custom inlay- Italian theme (1 Viewer)

Any suggestions??? I have been pretty set with Quinta Strada but would love to hear your thoughts. Any slang? What do you really call “the nuts”? Walnuts?? :wow:

I gravitate toward light, but it's good to have a mix. If it was a 6-chip set, I would probably use 4 light(er), 2 dark(er).

You ABSOLUTELY NEED a recent CPC colour sample set if you don't have one already. The colours of the chips in hand are in no way similar to how they are presented on a monitor from the design tool. I cannot stress this enough.
 
Love the idea. Be careful with idioms. It's a mistake any first time speaker of a language makes. I used to be fluent, but not so much anymore (no practice, no good). If I find some literature or interesting poker writing in Italian I'll send it your way.

We say "the nuts" - we don't literally mean the seeds of certain plants and uh male genitalia. It's a more culturally developed saying in the English speaking world. You'd have to find the Italian equivalent. It's possible that they have adopted some poker terminology through literal translation, but I suspect not.

Like "porca miseria" translates to porcine misery/poverty, but it's more accurately and informally used as "Bloody hell!" or "damn!"

Looks like @Kid_Eastwood has you covered.

Thanks I have 2 sets of color samples. One with inlays. This is great advice though. I will recheck with samples.

I also have not practiced Italian since I don't live in Italy and I have not stayed there for long vacation for a long time. And even with my Italian family we've always spoken the national language for obvious intégration reasons.

But I can still speak and as @TheOctagon says, we have to be cautious with litteral translations. Better to find the equivalent.

One should also be careful when using one's own language in public in another country.
Not wise to say aloud in Greek to a fellow Greek, while in Italy, "na catso edo?" (should I seat here?):D

About the chips: Whatever you do, please don't loose your Ferrari-ish red 3TA316

I like that you are an advocate for the Ferrari chip. In the Cali set I don’t know how to keep it. I like the 1/4 pie better as a quarter. But I have also changed this up a dozen times and probably will a dozen more, ha. Thanks

Porcine = in reference to or resembling pigs, so yeah - in effect "dirty" but literally "piggy". Filthy poverty I guess is the pseudo-literal translation of that phrase.

That's why it's so hard to come up with reasonable literal translations. They always sound absurd! :ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

Forget about the Cali line-up, then!:) Designing a custom set is full of decisions about losing many things to keep just one in each case.

How about now?? Also, which inlay colors do you like better and do you think I should use a different inlay on each side? I am picturing an inlay with the smaller head (likely an outline or silhouette), large denom, and of course, Quinta Strada. “Card room” appears to translate to “sala da gioco” and when reverse translated is “gambling hall” which is even better. Thoughts on Quinta Strada “casino” versus “card room/gambling hall”??

Will do. These are just temp inlays to determine edge spots. I need help. I want the stallion to be an outline or silhouette with a large denom.
I was considering having a contest for best inlay designs on a new thread, maybe the “wanted” section?? Do you think this could work??
For instance, I give a deadline (march 1?) and cash ($50?) and/or prize (I have some sample sets) and select one person to work with and finalize inlays. I am not trying to insult any artist and I am really considering just hiring a pro ( I assume $150??) but thought this could be fun idea for any amateurs or up and coming artists. Let me know if I am way off here.

Also, I want to specifically thank @chipjoker for his suggestions and willingness to help so far. I am so glad I have joined this forum. If I would have designed a set on my own I imagine I would have regretted it as my ideas have changed so much since the beginning of creating Quinta Strada.
 
While I’d love to see “Porco Dio Casino” chips, I think you could do something cool with the some of the provinces of Italy.
Each has its own flag you could incorporate.

25c: Puglia
$1: Sicilia
$5: Toscana
$25: Lazio
$100: Sardegna

Or you could do Serie A soccer teams with their respective flags
25c: Sampdoria (lol)
$1 Lazio
$5 inter
$25 Roma
$100 Juventus

Or better, I have at least 20 pictures of me vomiting in various places in Italy. Put those on chips.
Best/worst idea was my parents sending me there fresh out of high school to go to college. Fun years. Drunk years.

The Peacock is the best Cali $1 colour there is.

If this is a Cali set, the white $100 is the best. Bright white looks fantastic.

All the chips are winners....Except the $2. It looks like ass.
And what do you need a $2 chip for? Dump it.
