what are Empress and Empress Star ? (1 Viewer)

very often I see pictures and discussions about Empress and Empress Star
However I was not able to find a background or a history of those 2 chips sets.

What are they? from where they come from? those are custom Paulsons from which year?

Two different things. Google “Argosy Empress Casino” for the origin of the Empress chips.

I’m not sufficiently knowledgeable to tell you the origin of the Empress Star chips.

Argosy's Empress Casino (also known as Empress Casino Joliet) was a Riverboat casino and hotel located in Joliet, Illinois. Built in the 1990s by a group of investors headed by T.J. Lambrecht, Empress Casino become one of the first riverboat casinos in Illinois. It was destroyed by a fire on March 20, 2009.
 
At one time, the wikipedia information was different. Don't forget, anyone can update wikipedia. There was a need to project different information regarding the Empress at one time.
 
Use the search function and I’m sure you’ll find something about it. People will not bring it up here again, if you want to find more information about it, use the search function.

That is what happened in the aftermath of the Star chips. I disagree that the forum was divided. But lots of people had opinions, everyone shared them, and civility went out the window.

I don't think it destroyed friendships. It just widened the gaps that already existed.

As i said in the first post that you didn't read : Results gives 6 pages of Sales, Wanted and Trades. No valuable information to understand why Empress chips are worn out and Empress Star look sharp brand new.

Now, thanks to WedgeRock, Darson and saleen121212 (that addressed my questions), I know.

I typed in "Empress Star" and came up with more than 10 pages of threads. One of those threads (which I found in under 30 seconds) is 7 pages long and literally starts with "Does anyone know the story behind these chips?"

So I'll say again, use the search function :D

Just in case you’re not clear about this—the Empress Casino chips were used for years in an actual casino, which has closed and the chips have been sold to the market. Empress Star (along with Aurora Star and Pacific Star) were made for casinos that were never to be opened.

Clearly I can’t attack every post, I wouldn’t even have time to work with the time that would take.

You info isn’t inaccurate. What rubs me the wrong way is that, though you weren’t even a member here, you seem to feel the need to bring it up again and again when there is really no need to go there. Your info concerning the “divide” is second hand. There’s a lot of great chippers still here, not every new member needs to be introduced to past drama.

Clearly you have a problem with me so please block me and save us both the drama, some of us are here for the chips not to start fights on a poker chip forum. My time here does not change the fact that I care about the community or change what I know about the past. Sure I wasn't here, but I do know that Several members are not around anymore because of what happened. Also please show me where I brought this up? Yet another also, you probably haven't noticed, but I don't post nearly as much as you think I do any more.

Uh. People can have options even if they were not a member when it occured. I was here, and I agree with him. Most everyone has moved on, but alas, it does not change the fact some people still disagree with it. Saleen isn't out of line one bit in my option.... He stated facts and was basically informing the OP.
