honestly, if the rangers don't take it tonight, i'll be a little conflicted in the next round. the caps are an incredible team (if buoyed significantly by ovechkin) and i've grown to respect them over the last 6 games for sure, but the lightning are sort of the rangers south with callahan, boyle and stralman.

I'm not really sure which team I would rather face, but the story would be better if we play the Rangers - Ex-Lightning vs. ex-Rangers. I also think it would be great if the Lightning could play all original 6 teams on the way to the Stanley Cup. :

This season the Lightning won both games against Anaheim, split with Chicago, won all three against the Rangers, and went 1-2 vs. the Capitals. We seem to play better against better teams. I like our chances against any of the remaining teams, although Anaheim plays a very physical checking game that sometimes works against us.

i think that's probably true, but (1) Marty's due to really show up in a game and (2) Dan Boyle is underrated imo and a lot of his contributions just aren't noticed.

Dan Boyle was a great defenseman but is past his prime and is somewhat of a defensive liability. He still handles the puck well and contributes on the power play. Is he OK after that huge hit from Orpik ?

Marty has been underrated his entire career That was the driving force for much of his success, as well as the reason he left Tampa. He was my favorite Lightning player, but he has definitely slowed down and is also a defensive liability. He has got to be upset at being benched in the latter half of the 3rd period and OT in game 7 vs. the Caps. Let's see if that motivates him or continues to grate on his psyche. I still admire him and wish him well, but this is the playoffs and he is in the way of our ultimate goal. :

I actually played poker with Marty in a celebrity tournament. I sat on his left for 2 hours. Nice guy, until he bluffed me off a pot. I still have his jersey hanging in my office.

Lots of scoring chances for the Rangers, but Bishop stands tall. Huge save by Palat at the end of the period to keep it scoreless.

To be fair, I didn't pick Dom Moore as the one who'd show up, but damned if he wasn't there at the right time.

Great game all around. I thought it was headed to OT for sure when Lightning had the power play with 4:20 to go.

I thought Dominic Moore has been one of the best players for the Rangers the past 2 games. He plays with a lot of energy and makes things happen.

tragically, i will be stuck in a school board meeting from 6 through maybe 9:30, so i will have to follow at least the first period on my phone. blech.

I will be missing at least the first period tonight too. I am going to a memorial dedication for police officers killed in the line of duty. I thought about trying to listen to the game on my phone, but i would hate to inadvertently cheer at the wrong time. [emoji15]
